? Fine for chewing gum?

:eek: I just heard that a nurse was fined by OHSA for chewing gum at the nurses station! A $500 fine! Is this just a management-induced urban legand, or can anyone out there confirm this?

I am 99% sure that is pure myth for a couple of reasons.

#1 The $500 fine is suspiciously similar to the $500 fine in Singapore for chewing gum.

#2 I have never heard of nor can find an example online of an individual being fined. What could be confused for an individual being fined is that OSHA can fine the company for each employee not in compliance.

#3 OSHA was designed to protect employees from hazardous working conditions set by the employer, not to punish employees.

It has to be an urban myth. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's mission would not have chewing gum as an employee under their domain. Please check out their mission statement at http://www.osha.gov/oshinfo/mission.html.

$ 200.00 fine if you have a tic-tac in your mouth......lol :lol2: (joking people) !!

praiser :heartbeat

I don't think I could be nurse if I couldn't chew gum so I hope to god it isn't true. It's my destresser, not to mention it prevents bad breath after lunch. lol
