Does anyone know of any websites that have a collective list of GN programs in all states? I find it hard to just find it on a hospital's website--because not all like programs are referred to "GN" programs. Thanks!!

I don't know of anything like that. I doubt that a list like that exists, since it depends on the policies of individual hospitals. I think your best bet is to call the hospitals you are interested in to inquire about GN programs. I admit this has been a harder process than I anticipated. Still looking for a job myself.
Good luck!

hi. what does graduate nurse programs for? is that a requirement before you'll get hired by hospitals? for how long is that?
It's basically a training/preceptorship for new nursing graduates. It includes class time reviewing important concepts you learned in school. Also, you are with another nurse called a preceptor who will guide you in your learning as a new nurse. The hospitals that have these programs really want you to succeed and will help you transition to becoming an independent nurse. Programs range from 2months to 1 year. It depends on the hospital.
thanks for that info @ mjick.

op: call hr and ask them directly. this is what i did and it helped to confirm my decision to stay at the hospital i work for as a nurse extern. my hospital has a new graduate program and it is extensive! some hospitals near me don't have a new graduate program but justify their lack by stating that all new grads start off on a medical surgical floor or a year. i think new grads on med surg need the support of a new graduate program too!! gl:up:

Most major hospitals and medical centers have extensive programs for new grads. The University Hospital Consortium (UHC) has a 1-year residency for BSN grads at about 40+ medical centers in the US (full list at http://www.aacn.nche.edu/Education/pdf/NRFlyer.pdf.
Ask the HR departments what type of mentoring, training, orientation programs they have for new grads. The data suggests that a longer residency program is better (higher retention, less stress, safer care, etc).
