Finally ACCEPTED!!!!!!! Now what?!

After transferring and spending what feels like an eternity doing some MAJOR damage control with my grades (I made the Dean's list!)- I've been accepted into nursing school and I'll be starting my program in August!!

Now that I'm officially a nursing student, what can I do this summer to prepare? What do you wish you knew before you started?

Congrats to you too!!

I don't have any coreqs left, I took them all while I was getting my GPA up for the applications!

Thank you!

I would have gotten all my co-reqs out of the way, but that would have put me under the credit hour eligibility for financial aid. I have most of them done though, so my school load during the program is decreased but still full time so I can receive aid.

If you drink, cheers to us and our accomplishment so far! Fall will be a very exciting time :)

I would suggest you certainly try to enjoy your summer, but also try to prepare yourself mentally and physically not only for school but for the career itself that will come after.

Try to get in shape (if you're not already). If you train your body to be used to physical activity then the physical stress of nursing will be greatly diminished. Do this by finding something you enjoy doing that will help get you healthy. I personally enjoy bike riding, hiking, trail running, climbing, etc, but most people aren't into all that so just find your niche and stick with it whether it's the treadmill or just jogging around your neighborhood. I cannot emphasize enough how much difference it will make in your health and performance if you are in decent shape going into school.

Also, start learning to watch what you eat. I don't mean go on a diet, I mean learn to redefine your diet to optimize you physical and mental performance. I strongly disagree with previous poster who said go all out and enjoy sugary treats and all that junk. You will regret it.

Then stick to all these disciplines once you start school. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting you stress out over watching what you eat and exercising. I'm saying the exact opposite: integrate those things into who you are and how you live and they will actually GREATLY decrease your stress levels.

You will be ahead of the game if you learn how to do this. You will be less stressed and more healthy than your classmates, and it will show in your grades and performance and even satisfaction with your career choice.

Enjoy your summer, but start treating your mind and body in a way to achieve the performance you want. Go out and have fun responsibly too (that's part of treating your mind right). It will be an effort you will not regret.

I am still completing my pre reqs but I love to hear that you had to do some major damage control and then ended up making the deans list! How awesome! I dug myself into a deep hole and I am doing everything possible to get out of it. All A's so far and not stopping anytime soon. Congrats!!!

Thank you!!! And keep on keeping on, you'll get there! If I could bring myself up from academic probation and get into nursing school, then I know that you can :) enjoy micro while you're in it, it's the best class!
