Wow! How very sad for this patient who suffered...

Could you sleep at night knowing what you had done?

The nurses should have spoke up sooner.

IN MY OPINION

I mean I understand that junkies are junkies etc. But as a nurse to go so far down the road to addiction that you are steeling the pain patches right off of the Pts is lower than a street junkie holding up a 7-11 with a gun.

We really need NUW

What a shame-we have to check the resident's patch every shift and sign off on the MAR that we have done so.........

We have to check for the placement of these Fentanyls' and sign off in the MAR!!! This is the lowest of the lowest, how sick and there must've not been regular staff because someone should've noticed and where were the checks in place. Other people must be reprimanded because staff on the whole unit was ultimately responsible if they were her caregivers. At our facility, we keep our CNA'S on the same cluster for 2 to 3 mths and even sometimes longer depending on the unit which may even have their residents permanently to have these kind of safeguards in place to protect residents from these ugly possible scenarios (including physical abuse, neglect, mistreatment, etc). This way there is a smaller pool of people that were responsible for these residents if something so bizarre was to ever happen, God forbid!!
