False Positive Peth Test! Can Ruin your career and life!

Published

I have been on probation with the board of nursing for five years.I went for my release assessment which cost me 1,300 for 2 days.I have not drank in 15 years.I had a UDS and a hair test and a peth test.My hair and urine was negative but my peth test was false postive. Now I am so worried they will not let me out and revoke my licenses for something I really didn't do.Does anyone have any experience with this matter.

No I havent. Just said a prayer for you. Hope you are ok.

Yes. I am originally from California. Now finishing 5 years in Florida Ipn. I have been punished for false positive Etg test since 2006. They think PEth is the gold standard now. I don't trust the PEth test. These tests are being used more frequently.

What state are you from? Can you relate it to any food or drink items?

I'm from Alabama.I had a prescription for phenergan dm cough syrup it's 7 % alcohol. But because I'm an addict they are not believing me.I haven't drank alcohol in years.

A.) I'm not sure of Alabama's contract stipulations, but I'm aware of almost every state explicitly stating that you cannot consume *any* product containing even miniscule amounts of alcohol. Cough syrup with 7% alcohol is a no brainer no-no.

B.) Any prescribed medication (and even non prescribed OTC meds) needs to be reported to the BON in my state. Like I said before I thought this was pretty standard across the country for all BONs. Was this medication on your list of prescribed medications? If so, your test will show up positive, but it will be excused since they were aware you were taking it. Hope that is that case for you... good luck.
