Failed 4x in another state and now applying for a new state

You are aware that the NCLEX is the same exam regardless of the state that you take it in correct? However, here is from Nevada Law about RN applicatns by examination:

NAC 632.165 Procedure for writing examination after initial attempt. (NRS 632.120, 632.305)

1. An applicant for licensing as a registered nurse or as a practical nurse may write the examination four times.

2. If the applicant is unsuccessful on the second attempt, before he may write the examination for the third time, he must present to the Board a plan of study, acceptable to the Board, for preparation to write the examination.

3. If the applicant is unsuccessful on the third attempt, he must repeat courses in nursing theory in a nursing program approved by the Board before he may write the examination for the fourth time.

Yes Ive read the NAC articles you mentioned above. These are based on the state of Nevada. However, I was wondering if they (NV) count the number of times the exam taken regardless of the jurisdiction? Or they only take into account the number of times exam taken within the jurisdiction of state of Nevada?

As the NCLEX RN is a national standard examinatiion, and the rules don't specify that the attempts are specific to NV, my interpretaion of the rule is that you haveconsider made the maximum number of attempts. However, this is a question best directed to the NV BON.

The way I am reading the rules that are posted, you have already taken the exam the maximum number of times they allowed. It does not make sense to me that they will consider the four times you have taken it already to not count for their license. If anything, according to their rules you would not have been allowed to take even the four attempts without taking more courses in between. You will have to contact the Nevada Board of Nursing to be certain before you can know for sure. We can only guess.

A better question right now is what makes you think you will pass on the 5th try if you have not done remediation, additional courses, like that? Another good question to figure out the answer to before you invest too much more time would be whether Nevada will accept your foreign education as adequate to be licensed in Nevada. It may be perfectly fine, or they may tell you that you are missing some nursing courses that they consider necessary before they will consider you for a license there. Seems to me like you need to get on the telephone with the Nevada Board of Nursing.

Same thoughts too. Im very much anxious already and I cant wait til Monday for me to call Nevada BON and ask what would be the best thing for me to do. I recently pass the English exam they required but when I read and went thru their application form for NCLEX-RN exam, part of the questions ask if how many times I took the exam and which state. Again, like what you said, I'll address this issue to NV BON. Hoping they will consider my case.

Thanks for your reply. I already contacted the board for NV. The past 4 attempts doesnt count and therefore I am allowed to sit in the NCLEX RN exam. I made a mistake of not attending any fornal review classes. The remedial course is not required in NV. Despite this, I already enrolled for a 3-month intensive review class prior to this thread. This way my chances of passing the exam will increase.

The fact that I graduated from a foreign nursing school, the former state that I applied before allowed me to take the NCLEX (multiple times). Mind you, all of my school credentials passed thru CGFNS for evaluation so I do not think I'll have a problem with my school credentials when I'll take the board exam soon.

Hi, I know this is an old post...but did u happen to pass and get licensed in NV? Do u mind my asking what the other state was, that you got your license in? My husband is going to take his 3rd attempt for NV. I'm so scared. If he has to take it a 4th time, I'm thinking of having him take it in another state and just endorse to NV.
