Failed 1st try. Looking for a good review center

Published

I'm devastated. I don't have the official results yet but I got the BAD pop up. So I have already accepted the fact that I failed.

But I don't know where I went wrong. I'm a good student. I get good grades in school. I have never failed an exam in my life. So, I really don't know what I did wrong.

I studied the following books: 8 hours/5 days a week at the library for 2-3months.

Saunders Comprehensive Review

Kaplan Course Book

Kaplan Strategies

La Charity Priority and Delegation

NCLEX Exam cram

I answered over 3000 questions. I actually get 70-85% in my scores.

But I failed. I got 265 questions.

I want to start reviewing again next week and retake in 45 days. But I don't know where to start, it seemed like what I did before was not good enough. I was wondering of enrolling in a review center but I don't know which one. I had a hard time answering priority questions.

Is HURST online review any good?

There are no review center I can go to around San Fernando valley. Or do you happen to know one? or any other review center recommendation?

THANKS!!

Hey,

It's ok, it was possibly the most difficult exam I ever took. I honestly did not know anything on the exam when I took it, it was like it was in another language, and I basically picked the one I think was best, more like guessed the right one anyhow. Keep holding on, you will do it. Have you tried enrolling in the Kaplan online course? It was the only course/book I used in preparation.

nope, I heard kaplan doesn't go through the content and just bombards us with questions. i don't think i will learn from that.

quite a few people fail the first time actually. i think a lot of it is bc you have NO clue what you are about to see and you dont know what to expect. just keep trying...you will get it! im taking it for the third time on thursday...so i feel your pain and it is definately deep. just keep practicing questions...learn how to really answer the questions. maybe at least google kaplan strategies for passing bc it really does help. good luck in your studying

It's okay if you fail the first time. I say don't spend ur money on those review course. Just start studying by learning the basic like your content. Then start doin questions by system and dontmove on until you master each system. Also, read the FACT THROWING here in all nurses. Cause it helps a lot. And don't rush your self!, if you have schedule your test and you feel unready, reschedulenit for another two weeks until you feel ready.that's what I did. I didn't pass on my first try and on my second try I made sure to study the ones I wasn't sure of. But for sure know your lab values and ur basic meds such as cardiac meds and resp. Meds. Good luck!!

thank you. yes, I was actually shocked with the exam itself. I never thought it was that hard. I'll be doing kaplan question trainer I heard its the same as the nclex questions. Good luck to you on your exam! :D I hope you make it this time! May the good Lord be with you.

Thank you for that reply. I think I won't enroll in a review center anymore and work on what I have. :) at least now I know what to expect for the exam. I actually felt like I want to reschedule my exam that first time but I wanted to get it over with so I pushed through. This time, I'll gauge myself. Thanks!

I took the test yesterday... 140 questions and got the good popup. However, 4 of my friends all took the Kaplan review course and they were all done with 75 questions. I studied the Saunders and Kaplan books, but didn't take the review course (I wish I had but it didn't fit into my schedule). It seems like Kaplan will teach you how to answer the questions even though they might not teach you the material. Good luck to you!

I agree with buschmi86. Kaplan strategies do work. There is a content review, with hours of course review. I spent time on the topics I didnt know so well. And I believe, part of passing the NCLEX is not solely mastering the material but also knowing how to dissect the questions. And the Kaplan review course teaches these things. Good Luck with your studies.

I bought the kaplan strategies book and course book, is it not the same thing they teach at the review center?
