failed on the 3rd attempt

Nursing Students NCLEX

Today I found out i failed again for the 3rd time. I honestly dont know what to do anymore. Its just so disheartening for me. I took this exam 3 times and i failed all of them. Im so tired of studying day and nights getting good results at home but not on the exam. I do have test anxiety but i didnt think it was that bad. Its not like i don't know the materials, i do. I pass nursing school but why cant i past this exam? Its really frustrating and it put a huge damper in my mood. It just put me in a serious depression mode. Generally im a happy person but failing this exam makes me want ball up and cry in a corner for days. Its been over 8 months and i am drain of my energy.. In the beginning i understood why i didn't pass the first time around it was because of my lack of knowledge in certain areas and the second time was because i focused too much on one area. But this third time i have no clue to why i failed. I made sure not put my focus on just one specific area and do more questions. i pray and pray but no results. Honestly i dont want to fail the 4th time around because thats money and energy i don't have. This just make me second guess myself, am i not fit to be a nurse. I've never felt like a failure until know. But I'm not quitting! I just need some advice. My brain is fried and i am exhausted.

So sorry that you are having a tough time with it. Have you taking a prep class? I took one that was 5 8hour days. Expensive at $400 but worth it weight in gold. Also, I used Lippincotts the point prep u 10K questions. I went thru every option and kept answering questions until I hit the mastery level.

Good Luck. I can only imagine how disappointing this must be after all the hard work you have done so far.

Wow, you have all the books needed to study to and pass. If you know the content then you may need to know how to analyze and use critical thinking. Do a process of elimination, there is always two that is wrong cross those out. Take the other two questions and analyze them, which ever makes sense to what the questions ask then choose it. This helps even if you don't know the answer to questions. Wishing you good luck.

we share almost the same story. I just posted up a long post about what I did in those 10 months I studied and came up short.1st try fail, 2nd fail again On my 3rd try, i changed things up, took things slow and it paid off. Slow and steady, wins the race; check my post out and maybe you can find my study habits interesting on what I did for the 3rd time around.

Thank you for the advice !

hi bubbles12, I am so sorry you have failed the NCLEX again. You can do it & with the right focus you will do it. Now, it appears you are studying to many materials. My motto is whatever materials you study, you must become an expert in them. An expert in the sense that you could lecture on the material. I do not think you can lecture on all the materials you used to study with(just being honest). I used Hurst live review & knew/continue to know that Hurst Book inside & out & passed in 75. I strongly believe in Hurst, b/c if your content is super strong, no question can trick you.

My suggestion to you is use Hurst Book(only if you have the time to understand/know it/& can lecture on all topics in that book), the La Charity(which will get u ready for delegation/priority) & do questions.

Further tips -> focus on meanings/rationales/& understand the WHY of every fact you come across.

- Stay calm & relax. Remember go into the examination from a critical thinking and safety perspective & keep this in mind for every question. Read the question 2 - 3 times and make sure you understand what the question is asking. If an answer jumps out immediately, re-read that question, because that option could be the distracter. Lastly, please do not think about anything else b4 or during that exam (such as I need to pass this to get a new job, or to benefit my child or to help my family), b/c this will create undue pressure and anxiety. Now relax and GO GET YOUR LICENSE.

Sorry to hear that. Let me ask u did u read saunders front to back page? Its impossible to fail if u read and understand this book. Maybe too much resources is bad habit.

Sorry you are having difficulty passing the nclex. I bought the nclex review books for Saunders and Lippincott, used the CDs that came with book too that had review questions, and online questions also I believe. What I did was just took 100 questions a day--whatever I got wrong I just did a quick review. I didn't do a bunch of review reading, I just did the nclex review questions and 100 a day. I did this for about three months and the took the boards and passed on my first attempt. I think just doing mainly questions it really helps you to prepare for the nclex and understand how to answer the questions correctly and the rationale of why that was the best answer will start to make sense. It gets you prepared and used to answering these type of questions, instead of trying to jam a bunch of nursing information in your head that will be hard to keep it all straight. Doing it this way helped me to learn how to get rid of the least likely answers first and then choose between the remaining two. Don't give up!!!! Best of luck!!!!
