Failed NCLEX

Published

I've failed NCLEX three times. The first time I took it I will admit, I didn't study and went to take it anyway. The second time I studied but was dealing with some problems at home and I felt like that took away from me believing in myself. This last time I studied and of the 8 categories I got above passing on one subject 4 near the passing and 3 below. I feel like I will never pass and Im starting to lose hope.

Has anyone every taken it this many times? Im also starting to feel like I'm incompetent to be a nurse. Just looking for motivation or situations for those that have taken it many times and ended up passing.

Hey! I am right there with you. I failed for the 3rd time in December! I literally feel at a loss. I am interacting with this post because I feel the same way you feel and I am looking for motivation and similar situations as well! We cannot give up though. What resources have you used? I have been through UWorld 3 times and I really love it, but I just can't understand how I have failed 3 times! I have really bad test anxiety and I think that has a-lot to do with it, but would also love some new recommendations on resources! And I just wanted you to know that you are not alone!

@kamilleh174 Hi! it feels so nice to know Im not alone. Im sorry to hear you still haven't passed as well. I understand the frustration and the toll it takes on us. I also have have used u-world. This first time around I really studied the material and I actually saw an improvement in my score. I also used Youtube: Sarah registered nurse RN and she was amazing. I have now purchased Kaplan (even if I wasn't a fan but figured I needed something new) I also purchased UWorld again.

Yes, we defiantly cannot give up! I also suffer from really bad anxiety and also feel like it plays a factor in me taking my test. I do plan on retaking, and I hope you do as well. I know we can do it!!

Also as a side note I also used the Mark K audios! They were also very good!

@V.E.03 Thank you so much for your feedback! I love nurse Sarah!! Her material is great. The first time I tested I used Hurst, UWorld, and a tutor. These were all great resources, but they all required too much time and I did not complete a single one of them. I had too many resources and it was impossible. I was also rushed to test because of the job position I had already accepted. The second go around I focused primarily on the local tutor and her material which was also great and helped me to better understand the material that I struggled with throughout nursing school! Then after failing again I decided to focus on UWorld. I feel confident in myself and my knowledge. I really think my biggest struggle is test anxiety and just doubting myself during the test. like I said I am confident in my knowledge at this point, but it's like as soon as I sit down in front of that computer my confidence goes down. I am just so burnt out on studying (I know you feel my pain), but I have reapplied to re-test and I just received my ATT! I am just trying to figure out where to go from here! I have been watching simple nursing videos and then I think I'm going to do some questions out of the NCLEX books I got during nursing school! I am tempted to re-purchase UWorld just to stay in the swing of doing questions, but I just cannot decide! I need to look into the Mark K videos I have heard great things! The biggest thing is that we are not giving up! And that is something we should be proud of! We will get through it!

I failed the NCLEX 2 times and I’m going to retake my test in a few weeks any advice. I’ve been an LPN for 4 years and Still cannot pass this test any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I would recommend Hurst live review, follow the program to the end. I utilized Hurst in nursing school. It teaches content and how to answer NCLEX questions.  I passed my boards utilizing Hurst as well as NCLEX mastery app RN.

@kamilleh174 I definitely learned that if I used too many resources it was too overwhelming for me! So I think this time around im going to stick to 1 or 2 and leave it at that. The other thing about using so many programs is that sometimes the numbers are off or the explanations and I found myself trying to understand which explanation was correct. I too have felt the anxiety of sitting down and then filling my mind with negative thoughts. "What if I fail", "Oh no I got the last answer wrong" etc. I def do think that we have to go in there believing in ourselves despite the times we have failed. I don't know who you are personally, but I am confident that you will pass. Just remember you finished 99% of what you need to become a nurse, all you have left is that 1%! WE CAN DO THIS!

I do think the Mark K audios are amazing. He gives great pointers and I do think that is why my scores also improved this NCLEX. I have also gotten approval to retest but my weakness is that I keep changing my date because I get scared. If it makes you feel any better 1 of my good friends told me recently that there is an AMAZING NP that works on her floor. The NP took her NCLEX 6 times before passing but now shes a NP and was known as one of the best RN's on her unit!

I hope you never forget that the most difficult struggles have the most beautiful outcomes, but most importantly have you appreciate things just a little more. WE CAN DO IT!

@Future RN 2020- I don't know what you've used to study but considering that I too have failed I don't really want to suggest anything.

I have found that after using the Mark K audio's my scores on my last NCLEX improved a lot! That and U-world!

The last thing is don't GIVE UP! Cry, get frustrated, be disappointed but don't allow yourself to fall into such sadness. I did and just finding the motivation and drive to keep studying some days was so difficult. Understand that a lot more people fail than they speak about, but you are not alone!

@Mikefc19 I've heard about Hurst! Is it as good as they say? How long does it take to complete the program?

I failed my first attempt on 2/06. I used UWorld and SimpleNursing.com videos. After reading some posts from Reddit, I’ve created another study plan and I’m using the NCSBN extension,Archer Rapid Review, Lacharity Book and Mike Klimek. I’ll let you all know how it goes.

@V.E.03 Hurst is about a month long. It focuses on content and specialties. It has quizzes that prepare you NCLEX. I highly recommend it. NCLEX mastery RN was my next source that I used. I didn’t use any other NCLEX prep sources. I felt that the more being utilized it can cause confusion.

If you are not doing well with self guided study, you must try something different!  Especially  If it hasn't worked for you in the past.  I suggest an instructor led program that lays out an outline for you to keep you on task.  I strongly recommend LIVE Hurst, like some others have also on this post.  And in any spare time from that, find a 2nd resource and answer questions daily until your testing time arrives. I used Hurst Live AND Ulearn and passed my test 1st time w 75 questions. There's no magic formula that fits all. There aren't really any short cuts. Sooner you realize that, the better off you are.  Bottom line, it's all up to YOU and you alone to figure out what  hasn't worked for you in the past and PUSH FORWARD with a NEW plan where you WILL succeed and pass this test.  Also, do not let yourself get overwhelmed. There is no way you are going to recall EVERYTHING.  BUT if you LEARN and not just memorize the basics in regards to your systems, Resp, Endo, Cards, etc, then you can answer or make an educated guess about any question they throw at you.   YOU got this! ?
