Failed NCLEX - study/answer tips?

Ooook, so here's my deal:

Took the NCLEX-RN a couple of weeks ago and failed. Half the questions were about things I had never even heard of, not even during school. I know that anything is game for the test and there's sooooooo much to study for. I hit the big things that we had in school and during the blasted HESI:

-anatomy

-lab values

-more common medications

-CAD, heart disease, arrhymthmias, most common procedures

-diabetes, hormonal disturbances...

Yada yada, I think you get the idea. I also used the Kaplan NCLEX-RN strategies guide book and the CD in the back of the book. Can't afford to take class. So my question is... how do I or anyone answer a question when you have no idea (because you've never heard of it, so how study for it?) what the medication/disease process/condition/whatever is? Even using the Kaplan strategies?

Any ideas/thoughts/advice would be helpful :D

smn2009, may i ask you to pm me too about the site for the question trainer?? plss??? thanks!

inspired26, may i ask for the complete title and author of the exam cram w/ cd so i can try to borrow it from our library? thanks!

and to everyone who are preparing for the retake, good luck! i hope and pray that we ace the exam on our next try.. :)

bachelorgurl:

i sent you the information via pm.

exam cram publishes a series of study material on various subjects/topics. you will need:

exam cram nclex-rn (isbn 0-7897-3705-1 or 978-0-7897-3705-2)

exam cram nclex-rn practice questions (don't have the book now)

keep in mind the cd for both books contains the same questions. if you need to review content, look for the nclex-rn book. if you only need to practice nclex type questions, get either book and just copy the cd from which ever book you get your hands on. i hope your library has either copy. mine did.

good luck with your studying.

i read your pm, thank you very much! i'll start on the practice questions now. i'll try to drop by the library later to check on the exam cram book and cd.

thanks again for all the tips!

Do you get the PM I sent you?

thank you so much....

Could someone please PM me the kaplan trainer please. I will be taking the nclex in a month and want to get prepared for it. Thanks so much!

I also would like to know where that "free" website is. I tried to do a google search for it last night & it brought up sites that I have never heard of that are not "nursing" sites. I didn't download anything from those sites & I'm glad I didn't. I have anti-virus software on my laptop & it popped up w/in a few seconds warning me that there was a pup (potent. unwanted program) on my computer???

Can someone PLEASE PM me the website or the info?

I can't afford the $300. to purchase the CD & I'm at my wits end. I have already spent $70. for the 5 weeks to use the NCSB program & when it ran out I bought the 3 week program so I can try to do the question bank.

I also have the exam cram but I am nervous about how it seems that some of the questions on there are not correct & I don't want to answer questions on the NCLEX PN wrong over a bad program??

I have both of the exam crams & I do like how the program works & so far every time I take the simulated one I am above passing but if the questions are not accurate that doesn't mean a thing...

I am so nervous and my exam is this Monday at noon.

Can someone please help me & tell me what I should do next to get this Kaplan question bank?

I heard it was a great assessment to have but at the time I didn't want to have too many programs all at once.

If it's that good than I would just do that one till Monday.

Thank you in advance for all of your help:)

helper/gwenny...

i just sent both of you a pm message with the web addresses.

good luck with your studying!!

gwenny:

you are preparing the the pn exam???

the websites that i have been sending are for the nclex-rn. i'm not sure if they will be useful to you. i know they will not be helpful to you.

also, if you do not feel "ready/prepared" to sit for your boards, i would suggest that you do not!! reschedule for another date. also, do not do rn type nclex questions if you are sitting for the pn exam. ...doesn't make sense!!...

suggestion: if you can't afford to buy any more books/cds, take a trip to barnes and noble (...or whatever bookstore you have in your area...), buy a cup of coffee/soda and sit there in the store and do some practice questions from the books they have right off the shelf!!! it's free, it's relaxing and you can see how well you are doing.

good luck! :D
