Failed a class, not sure what to do now.

So basically what you did is made you life more difficult and cost yourself a lot of money. The quicker you graduate the quicker you are earning money.

You can actually do all three of those. While waiting attempt to transfer and apply to a private school. See if you get accepted.

The MOST important part is under no circumstances can you let this happen again. Then you will be in debt and unable to probably get into any school.

Life is hard enough...do all you can to make your life easier and not more difficult. Discipline is freedom.

I don't really want to go in-depth about why I failed, but its not like I did it on purpose, or wasn't disciplined enough. That's all I really want to say about that.

So basically my situation is that I failed a class, which prohibits me from entering into the next semester. The policy at our school is that if you failed 1 class, then you can choose to remediate the following semester and enter at a later semester, a year later, which was what I did. However, after I finished my remediation, they said they don't have any spots available. It really bums me out - I don't want to wait another half year to get into a class, and potentially be rejected again because there aren't any spots available. From what the school has told me, a person has to fail in order for me to gain entrance into a class. This obviously seems like something that isn't very reliable,

Why do you think that? People flunk out all the time. It seems like that would be a reasonably safe bet.

so I don't really know what to do now.

Should I..

1. Wait it out, try and get into a class.

YES. Since now you know how hard it is to saty in, you'll work harder, pass, and five years from now it will be a small blip on the radar.

2. Try to transfer to another school

Most everybody who tries to do this finds that due to differences in programs, transfers are not possible. Besides, another program probably has a list of people waiting to get in who have never failed a class-- why would they want you?

3. Pay for a private institution (ex: West Coast)

NONONONONO. Expensive, and not as good a program.

4. Do something else?

Most people I know who failed previously were able to enter at a later semester without problems, but they said 10 people are on the waitlist for my class!

They who? The school says that or its "People you know"?

I don't think you did it on purpose. The thing is the "reason" doesn't matter. Grades are permanent and they do not offer explanations. So you must understand that if you are not "fit for duty" then you must either drop out or somehow complete the course. I say this because as a nurse...if I have stuff going on in my personal life...when I step onto the unit (or for you school) I am expected to perform at a high level. Period. If I injure a patient the lawyer isn't going to say "well he was really stressed out". I am there I am expected to perform.

Learn and move on. You will probably end up stronger for it. Good luck!

You need to: Not give up. Period. I've met many students during my nursing school education who failed a prior semester or even 2. But they continued. They remediated and repeated courses as necessary. And they eventually finished. The key is not to give up!

I learned a long time ago when I first started the path to become a nurse that those who don't give up and persevere are the ones who succeed.
