Hi,
Can anyone help me. I was in the BSN nursing program and I failed one course on the last semester which means I failed the program:sniff:. Is there anyway I can take the LPN exam in another state since the state that I live does not allow to take LPN. Does anyone know which state allows to take LPN if you have completed 3 semester of nursing program? Is it possible that I can transfer my nursing credits to another state so that I can take LPN? Any suggestion would help.

you went straight for your BSN instead of getting your ADN or something first?
some ppl do that... im not talking bad about you... by all means...
if i were you, i would start by talking to your state board of nursing and asking them the guidelines.... also.. look into the ADN programs there... if you were @ the very end of your BSN.. then you should have more than enough credits to transfer-down and have all the completed courses... they might make you do a semester of clinicals...but do you really honestly want to move out of state and be an lpn when you are pretty much a bsn?...
and.. im not positive.. but i am pretty sure... that you are not allowed to take the NCLEX-PN... nor the NCLEX-RN unless you have a diploma or a degree from an accreditted school... im ceartain of it unless you have military experience that was equivilant to your job...
my adivice to you.... repeat your last semster and pass it this time...
it happens all the time... there were 5 ppl in my BSN program that took the last semster more than once....
i wish you the best of luck.....

Well, don't look at Cali. Even if you could (about which I'm unsure but skeptical), many hospitals around here are doing away with LVNs although they're still common in the LTC settings.
I think NC allows what you're talking about but you might run into trouble with out-of-state classes.
I would start checking with the BON in every state to which you're willing to move.
Thanks for you reply and suggestion. I acutally did my BSN straight. My school does not allow to repeat the course. I want to take LPN exam out state and than transfer it to the state that I live. The reason I want to do LPN exam b/c even if I apply to another school I will have to wait a semester since it is too late for me to apply for nursing program. So, I wanted to take LPN exam if any state allows it so I can work and start paying my loans that I barrowed for my BSN program. I wish I did not had to go through this.

You might want to get in touch with the BRN in CA. Their application has a provision for those to take the RN boards who are non-grads. You also have the LVN option, but you have to ask about these options. I think your problem would be that your schooling is out of the state of CA. It is still worth a phone call. However, you must be acutely aware that if you were to get a nursing license from the state of CA using any non-graduate options, that this license is not recognized outside the state of CA. So, not an option, unless you plan to move to CA permanently. Good luck and come back and let us know what they tell you, should you inquire.

If you obtain a license in another state by a means that is not allowed in your own state, there is a good chance that your state will not accept your license by endorsement. Also, I think you have to have been in a program designed to allow for taking the NCLEX-PN to be allowed to do this. If your program was not set up this way, you most likely would not be allowed to take the test in another state. Programs are not set up that way in my state, so I have no first-hand knowledge, but I seem to recall a poster from a while back that wanted to take the NCLEX-PN after failing an RN program (I don't remember if it was associate or bachelor degree), and was not allowed to do so because the RN program was not designed in a format that was acceptable to do this (if that makes sense).
Before you do anything, I would check with the BON of the state in which you want to practice and make sure you can be licensed in that state, or be prepared to move to another state if there is one that would allow you to take the NCLEX-PN with the education you have.

Can't you retake the course you failed next semester? I don't see how you can fail ONE course and be dropped from the program.
And I thought the BSN program was 6 semesters...
Hi, everyone
I found out that I might be able to take the NCLEX-PN in NH, but do you guys think I will have problem transfering my LPN license from NH to the state that I live in. Does anyone have any info regarding this matter, I would appreciate your help.

It depends on the rules of the board of nursing of the state that you live in. For example, these are the rules for licensure by endorsement for LPNs in Maine (from the ME BON website):
The Board of Nursing may issue a license to practice as a practical nurse in Maine if an applicant meets all of the following qualifications:
Therefore, if you are not a graduate of a practical nursing program, Maine would not issue you a license regardless of whether you were licensed in another state. Each state will set its own rules for endorsement. Without knowing what state you live in, it is impossible to help you.
