Excuses for Missing Work

I had a CNA call in because she did not want to drive her new car in the rain.

I once had to call in to work because I had just left work. I had already worked an 16 hour shift because my relief had called in, when they finally found someone to relieve me. I left work at 4p and was scheduled to come back at 8p. I live almost an hour away, so when I got home, I called in.

I was also once late coming back from a lunch break because, I got locked in a bathroom stall. I tried for about 15 min to get the door open but, couldn't and the space at the bottom of the door was too small to climb under. I finally had to stand on the toilet and climb over the top of the stall to another stall to get out. This was very hard to do.

Oh my gosh I don't think I could ever climb over the stall wall, I can barely jump a fence!

I work in retail (I'm still a student) and once a girl I worked with called out because her daughter is sick. She has one daughter. No lie, 5 minutes later her husband comes walking in with her daughter! She doesn't work with us anymore!

We also had someone who kept saying her uterus fell out. She would run to the bathroom and tell everyone her uterus fell out so she had to drive herself to the hospital. This would happen a lot! I mean I am no nurse or anything and I know a prolapsed uterus is real, but how many times can it happen to someone? She was only like 21 and didn't have any kids. Hm I don't know. I guess it would be a good reason not to work though! She eventually got fired though too.

We get SO many excuses all the time where I work! I have never called out yet because my mom is CRAZY about calling out! Not that she wouldn't let me, but I wouldn't be allowed to do anything else later if I called out of work or missed school..

Not a reply to anyone in particular--but why do we feel the need to explain ourselves?? Why is it anyone's business if we call and say we are sick--why do we need to give more information than that?? Contagious or not should be the only issue that concerns our employers---and if a supervisory nurse says you need to leave for health reasons-- than no one else should question it. It's all matter of respect--for ourselves, and our co-workers.

One of my cna's was over an hour late every day this week. first day no excuse, but she did call in to say she was going to be "a little" late. second day, puppy died in the middle of the night and she had to wait to burry him in the morning; didn't call in for this because her phone was shut off. Third day, headlight was out, had to wait until daylight to come in, no call. Had discussion this day with the DON about how she could not be late any more and she had to call if she was late. fourth day, husband turned off her alarm clock, no call. fifth day, no excuse, just couldn't get there on time, no call. And beleive it or not, this person still has a job.

There is one excuse that I am just dying to use someday...

Our hospital has a point system for calling off, each call off is a point and weekends are two points, and at 15 you're terminated. I've had to call off 3x in the last month because I've been battling this flu-like thing for several weeks. I also deal with severe seasonal depression from mid-November to early January every year, and while I am getting help with it, I tend to call off more during this time period. Not that I'm saying that's okay, but it can be hard to come to work when I've got a bad case of the blues.

I had some neighbour guys play a prank on me one night. Five or six of them buried my front door, back door and main floor windows with snow after a good snowfall. Collected it from a bunch of lawns, driveways and sidewalks and piled it against my exits. I came down the stairs in the morning to go to work, opened the door and met a wall of snow....not a speck of daylight. Looked out at my windows--covered, ran to the back door--covered. Had to call in to work, and explain that one to the boss. The guys thought it was the funniest thing on earth...

We had a CNA to call out last night cause she had a "toothache". Mind you.....she has no teeth!!! Guess she is teething?!

i have an altered energy field so i can't come in

how about someone who NEVER calls out sick, and then one day does and is accussed of lying "she's never sick"-----can't win either way!!!
