Excepted a position in ED!

I am excited but nervous. I am coming from community health and am soooo needing a change. This is stepping out of my comfort zone a bit, but that excites me a little :) Any advice? TIA!!!

I too am a NICU nurse, for about 2 years. I want to make the switch to the ER, but am afraid of if i would succeed or not due to my previous experience

For me, I think it would be an exciting change to at least give a try for a year or so. I feel it would go a long way towards correcting my imbalance as a nurse due to specializing right out of school. Plus, as I will be pursuing my FNP over the next few years, I think ED would give me a great foundation for being able to recognize "sick" in a wide range of ages, co-morbidities, etc.

My concern is whether any place would be willing to give me a orientation on par with those offered to new grads. If I took to it fast and was ready to be on my own sooner, great, but I would still want the option of a orientation that doesn't put unrealistic expectations on me due to having 2 years as an RN (beyond those things any experienced nurse should be required to know, i.e. prioritizing safety issues, good documentation, staying cool under pressure, etc).

Best of luck to you!

Good luck......Hang on to your hat......It is a great ride....
