Excelsior

Has anyone graduated from Excelsior's LPN to RN program recently and then endorsed in to CA? I understand that CA considers individuals on a case by case basis. I am currently a LPN licensed in WV, working in a critical access hospital and would continue to work there prior to moving to CA for approximately one year after graduation and passing my NCLEX-RN.

I had a psych and OB clinical rotation in my LPN program. I also have 12 years experience as an EMT.

EMT is irrelevant as it is not nursing. The CA issue is that they require clinical and theory to be completed concurrently. LPN clinical does not count. However you could endorse your LPN license then take 30 clinical/theory credits and qualify as an RN using the (CA only) "LVN +30" option.

But this only applies if you have not received your RN from Excelsior, correct?

It's not clear on the CABRN website. I don't know of anyone tried. However if they let overseas RNs challenge the LVN because their overseas BSN does not meet CABRN standards then later bridge LVN to RN it would seem possible.

I know it's only possible to do "alternative assessment" if you are a military corpsman with specific training or a valid LVN license (so medic to RN or RRT to RN would not be eligible) . I have no interest in working in CA so I'm not going to be the test subject. ;)
