I can't for the life of me determine how Excelsior figures their grades for the Nursing Exams. I took Esentials of Nursing Care: Health Safety and received a "B" however when I do the math I only received a 73%!! Has anyone else ran into this problem? Has anyone figured out how Excelsior figures their grades?

What math did you do?

Some of the questions are "experimental" and don't count. But how would you know which you got right and which you got wrong. All that matters is the letter grade.

I took the weighted percentage from the Detailed Score Report to determine the point value for each section then added it all up. The only thing that trips me up, jkeys, is that the percentages on the Score Report do not correspond to the letter grade. Although a B is a B and I'll take it.

It isn't expected that you'll get 100.

I have tried to figure my number score as well, and it doesnt make any sense, but the letter grade was passing and I will take that! There are some faculty who don't even get the scoring system....go figure!:chuckle

I don't think the sections themselves are weighted -- that percentage is just how many questions you'll get from each area of study on the test. The questions within the sections are weighted, though, but you don't know how the questions are weighted, which are experimental and thus don't count, etc. I think it's darn near impossible to figure out how that final grade is calculated! I just took my 7 A's and 2 B's and kept right on truckin'. :D
