I'm an LPN & would love to get my RN degree, but can't because I'm a mom & can't work or go to school right now full time. I've been reading a lot about the excelsior program & have been interested in it. However, I live in VA., and VA. does not recognize it as an accredited nursing school & will not let you sit for their boards if you take it. I was just wondering what states accept excelsior? If I did the program, can I sit for my boards in a state that approves it although I live in VA.? Could I then transfer my license to VA.? Any comments would be appreciated...

You may want to contact the VA board of nursing to get an accurate answer. I've heard that some of the states that don't recognize Excelsior is not even accepting license transfers from other states. But the best thing to do is call the VA licensing board of nursing to get a definite answer.

Or, I think you need to check and see if you can sit for the boards in your state if you take Excelsior and also look into the states you may be interested in moving to in order to see if they would accept Excelsior. Things change all the time, so, what may be acceptable now may not be later, so, I would make sure that I check into places that I have a strong chance to move to. Good luck!

It is my understanding that Excellsior has now changed its distance nursing admissions. It used to be that they would accept anyone irregardless of their clinical experience--NOW you have to be an LPN, Paramedic or a couple of other things I can't remember to get into the program. Indiana State has a distance program as well--LPN to BSN. Good luck!!
I am an LPN, but I'm not working at the moment. My license is valid. Do you have to be working for Excelsior to accept u?

No.
To the OP, post your VA question in the Distance Learning Frum. LunahRN is a VA resident.
