Exam q2weeks???

Published

 I see that some peeps are taking an EC exam every 2 weeks...are you studying everyday for hours?? I know everyone is different, but I need like 4-5 weeks, but maybe I'm not studying as much in that time frame. Just wanted some insight on your study routines/hours..thanks! I have the LS series left.

Hey Kim!

I have a few friends that soared through the program in a matter of months, and they did VERY well on their exams. I myself, started off thinking I need 6 weeks per exam, but when I really got into the program (near the LS series) I did better with an one test every month. I did need to devote a lot of time to studying (30 hours a week usually...ugh!) but my study system was so much a rhythm by then, I actually enjoyed much of that time. I am certified surgical first assist/lpn so I am on call 180-210 hours every two weeks and I would study when I could, and if I had a huge work week, that would mean marathon studying when I needed. Good luck with your last few tests!!

I tested usually every 2 weeks or so. At first I did one a month and then I just took off running. I would just pay for and schedule the test, take the first practice exam, review the Saunders, take the second practice exam, and then pull an all nighter the night before. I studied alot in the middle of the night when my son slept before he woke up or after he went to bed. I worked 3 12 hour night shifts a week with a 1 and a half year old and finished the whole program with all but 3 pre-reqs from January-September. I cannot say that my way was best, it was pretty haphazard and it was a speed I could barely keep up with, but I had to be done... and now I am!!! :-)

Good luck, let me know if I can help you do anything.

Yep...did the nursing exams in 2 1/2 months. Did A&P weeks later and then Micro 30 days later. The wait time began with getting a date for the CPNE (02/12/2010) and then another 2 months' wait to receive my diploma in the mail (04/16/2010). So from the time of the first exam (08/13/2009) until I received my diploma was 9 months.

*** Did A&P 3 weeks after completing my last nursing theory exam; had my RN license in hand 2 months before the first year continuation fee would have rolled around.

The key to moving so fast is to think about what you would do in a classroom: Day 1 of class and your instructor tells you that your first exam is in 2 weeks. You have no choice but to be ready for the exam. So, if you pay them all that tuition to impose a deadline like that on you, why not pay less somewhere else and impose the same deadline on yourself? You would still have to do the cramming but instead of completing one course in 4 months time, you will have completed an entire program in that time. Made a lotta sense to me and I did it nd by the time my yearly continuation fee would have arrived, I was already a faint memory in Excelsior....in and out!!! Of course, the longer you prepare, the better your grades will be in most cases. At my age (40++++++), my 5 B's and 3 C's were good enough for me especially when I went with expectations of receiving just the bare minumum (because it had been since the stone ages that I actually had to study and pass ANYTHING.):D

Thank you, BarbaraNM. It was not that I was trying to impress anyone. I actually went in with the hopes of not taking more than a year to complete the program. Finishing in record time just worked out that way....my job kept cancelling me just like they are doing now, and that's what sent me back to school, just like now. Had to do something with all that free time:D, but I did still work. The program is extremely doable.

Oh, trust me... I am very impressed! Of course, you did it for YOU, but you give hope to people that are doing it, or thinking of doing it! Everyone on this board is such an inspiration for others, (especially slackers like me that want to do it, but just can't get started... :uhoh3:) sharing their stories and their SUCCESS!! Beachnurse is another inspiration, and of course LUNAH... who is a great resource to all!! There are many others, too... I love this forum!!

Talk about inspiration! This is what I'm doing. I'm registering for the exams, giving myself that deadline as if I'm in a brick and mortar school and can't change the exam date.

Seems to be working!

You guys/gals are awesome!
