Ethical paper

Nurses Safety

Published

I am currently a nursing student and I need to do a really good ethical paper. I have been tryin to think of a really good one for a couple of weeks but I have come up empty-handed. I would like to do something dealing with women or pediatrics so just wondering if any of you have a really good idea for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

You really need to think this through for yourself. Think about some of the issues you might encounter in peds., for example.

This is one of the many opportunities you will be given to develop your critical thinking skills. Asking other people to give you ideas on how to write your paper is not one of the ways you refine those skills.

Please do not take this as a flame; it's not meant to be. You have no idea how many other students come here saying, "Help me with this paper/care plan/project..." It is possible to do this on your own; just ask any one of the nurses here who made it through school before the "internet." (Yes, I would be one of those nurses!) ;)

I can understand what your saying Fab4fan but I do think that the internet is now a viable source for information.

I certaintainly accept it when the source is identified well.

The student is asking for ideas, not to write the paper for them. I would agree 100% if this was the case. In my time and it was before the internet I have often asked my colleagues etc for ideas, you often pick up the topical problems and issues.

After saying all this I dont work in the areas the student requested info on and also what's topical in the UK may not be in the USA.

What about Munchausen by proxy- should we treat the offending parent as mentally ill, or as a criminal? What about the non-offending parent that may or may not have known what was going on? And after deciding between those two choices, does the parent get their child back?

Or another topic- in what situation, would mandatory sterilization/birth control be appropriate?

A simpler topic- women are less likely to be diagnosed when having an MI, why? and what can we do about it?

Thanks for replyin to the both of you. I have finally decided on a topic all on my own..woohoo GO ME! I have decided to do my ethical paper on whether family should be allowed to be present during CPR. I havent decided if I'm pro or con yet but I'm going to read into it then make my decision! I guess I know how to critical think on my own.

Good choice and there have been some heated debates on that subject on this BB!! Good luck!!

Oh! And Canoeheads suggestion of Muchausen by proxy is a good one too as the original author of many of the studies has come into disrepute and many of the cases now stand to be overturned.

Good for you, and good luck!
