I would do a search for "graduate nurse", "Novice nurse" and such. Try about.com or Medscape for info. Also try ahrq.gov and wonder.cdc.gov. New nurses have to learn the culture of the facility in which they will be working, the jargon, the chain of command, how to document appropriately, how to manage time and prioritize activities, how to work the equipment, etc. There is so much to know.

I hate to say this, but there is a saying "Nursing is the only profession that eat their young", and I must ad that the only thing harder than being a student nurse is being a G.N. Hate to sound so negative, but I found the staff was not as helpful as I had hoped. Part of this is the fact that the nurses are overworked, and partially it is they may feel intimidated with the new nurse asking things that they are not familiar with. I guess that is human nature. I try to be very helpful and approachable to the new nurses, due partly to my experience as a G.N.
