I deeply feel for you. I have not ever had an abortion, nor would I because of my strong belief that God is in control and it is a life from conception. I have been with friends and family members that have made that decision. I can say that not one of them have forgotten the experience. Several of them continue to mourn for years after having other children, for the child that was aborted. You are the same age as my daughter. I am sure that you are overwhelmed and feel trapped. You are young and want to continue with the life that you had planned. I appeal to you to consider adoption, if you are unable to parent the child. In the United States, you have so many options. I know that this may seem very hard to do. So many women choose abortion because they do not feel they could have the child and give it up, But consider the women that has not been able to concieve or has had the death of all her newborn children and now is given the opportunity to fullfill her desire to be a mother. I know such a women. She is in the process of adopting a baby girl from Columbia. The cost is enourmous, the wait is long. Although the infant's Mother was unable to keep the child, the babe was not a mistake. She has a mommy waiting on her in Texas. And no one could convience me this was not God. I am a nurse, and I have never forgotten that this is a gift. Your pregnancy is also a gift. It may not be a gift that you can keep, but it is not a mistake. I hope that you can come to peace with your decision. I pray that you find someone that can help support you and provide sound advice that can lead you to a place of peace. I am not sure what the test you refer to are, but if you want something that will prepare you for boards, get NCLEX. They are for the RN test, but I think they will help you alot. If you use them to study for every system, you will always do well on test. When you go to take your board test there will be no surprise.

Houston Community is a good school, but I would recommend the campus on Gessner at the old Memorial Hospital. They have changed the name, since I went. At that time, we used the same books as many of the BSN programs used, and my instructors were great. The only thing I have negative to say about the program is this: we did not have a strong pharm. class and the downtown medical campus did have a high fail rate for boards. I liked the fact that they offered evening nursing classes, too. I had a rotation at the VA, Memorial City, and a nursing home plus a pedi rotation at Shriners. It was wonderful. My psch rotation was in a lock up unit at the VA and then we did some of the milder psych stuff at a local private facility. I thought that the area I went to school in was easily assessed, not like some of the other campus sites. Hope this helps.

I hate to say this, but there is a saying "Nursing is the only profession that eat their young", and I must ad that the only thing harder than being a student nurse is being a G.N. Hate to sound so negative, but I found the staff was not as helpful as I had hoped. Part of this is the fact that the nurses are overworked, and partially it is they may feel intimidated with the new nurse asking things that they are not familiar with. I guess that is human nature. I try to be very helpful and approachable to the new nurses, due partly to my experience as a G.N.

I AM IN HOME HEALTH IN THE CENTRAL TEXAS AREA, AS FAR AS TEMPLE GOES THERE ARE TWO EXCELLENT HOSPICE AGENCIES. THE ONLY THING ABOUT THE HOSPICE NSG, FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN, THEY COVER ALOT OF AREA AND ALSO WORK ALOT OF ODD HOURS. CENTRAL TEXAS IS RELATIVELY SAFE AREA TO DO HOME OR HOSPICE NSG. OF COURSE THERE ARE TWO LARGE HOSPITALS IN TEMPLE THAT ALSO ARE AN OPTION. THE PAYSCALE IS NOT AS HIGH AS IN MANY OF THE AREAS IN TEXAS. ANOTHER OPTION IS HOSPITAL NSG IN AUSTIN, WHICH ISN'T TOO FAR. MANY NURSES FROM THIS AREA GO TO AUSTIN JUST A COUPLE DAYS A WEEK AND WORK, OR DALLAS. THEY DO THE TWO LONG DAYS AND ARE OFF THE REST. THERE ARE OPTIONS HERE. GOOD LUCK....CYNTHIA:)
