I have been accepted into nursing school and I start in January. Being that Christmas is almost here I would love to put some things that I need on my Christmas list. I already have a watch and stethoscope on my list. Is there anything else you would recommend that I put on my list?
Thanks!

a portable computer (plus a nice big monitor if the computer has a 15" screen or less, and maybe a full size USB keyboard for that, too)
a multifunction laser printer / scanner / copier that has a document feeder and can make 2-sided printouts or copies
vast quantity of printer paper
I had two different pairs of shoes for clinicals, so I could alternate them and thus not walk on sore feet every day. One pair had higher heels than the other. Shoes last longer if you don't wear them every day, too.

Tons of printer ink!
And I third the multi colored pen, really helps during clinicals
Monster/Red Bull/Coffee/Espresso
Tylenol
I love having my netbook and USB flash drive for notetaking in class
Some sort of recording device (I use my Iphone)
Stethoscope
A good backpack/bag (you'll be carrying LOTS of books, get something that won't kill your back!)
A good "brain" sheet for clinicals, learn to organize your patient's early during report!

I am also starting the nursing program in January. What books do you recommend that could help me during the semester, that are not required? What is a "brain" sheet? Thanks :)

Cheaper to use the printer ink at school LOL. I had my little netbook with an aftermarket battery that lasts 12 hours to get me through theory. Classrooms don't seem to understand that students need plugs! (My theory class had 1 plug behind the teacher's desk).
Penlight
Bandage scissors
SPARE scrubs that you keep clean in your car (you never know what might get on them in clinicals - *cough STOOL*)
Blood pressure cuff - there is kits with a cuff and a stethoscope in them but the stethoscope that I got with mine was the double tube and made differentiating lung sounds hard because the tubes rub against each other.
SPARE pens - a multicolor and several black pens - People WILL steal your pens and you always need to be able to grab another!
A pocket guide with normal lab values - I used my RN Clinical Pocket Guide for that
Xanax and LOTS of caffeine
You might want to look into a wheeled backpack. My fundamentals book weighed more than my 3 year old child. I would hate to see a future nurse (whose future profession usually includes back problems!) have back problems because of his/her backpack.
Something to type on and some kind of recording device. I did use my netbook because it fits in my purse and MY wheelie backpack was already packed with books. If you get that type of computer - just make sure that it has regular sized keys (they will take a bit to get used to because they are closer together but you won't misclick so much if they are full sized).
Best wishes to you!
Thank you so much! I now know what to put on my xmas list for my fiance!!! :)

I secondf and third the gift cards to starbucks..also nice bandage scissors not the big huge ones that my school had us buy that couldnt fit in ur scrubs but i bought some nice smaller metal ones. I also liked having the little RN notes and drug guide pocket size. I wouldn't recommend buying extra books because at my school you have so many books and studyguides required you really dont need extra ones. Believe me I did it and it has sat on my shelf Have fun and good luck!
