Enema?

OKay.... This may be a basic skill for most but how do you give a soap suds enema?

Place the patient in the left Sims position and lube the tip of the enema with water soluble lubricant. Slowly advance the tip of the enema into the anorectal area about 3 to 4 inches and squeeze.

Have the pt hold it in as long as they can too. If they complain of cramping, slow it down or stop if they keep complaining

Make sure you have a bed pan close by and the bed is padded. Helps to have an aid close by too.
