Yes, you can keep it as long as you continue to pay the renewal fee.
thanks :)

I am in the process myself...keep in mind it takes 6-8wks for the process of verification of the license by CA to another state, costs $60. After that the state you are applying to will take their sweet time to run through their legal mumbo jumbo. I am in TX trying to ge their permanent license and it is a chore....I am told the whole process may take another 3mos....and what am I supposed to do in the mean time? Camp out and eat grass? Noone will hire withour the TX license of course.......this must end one day.....I hope one day nursing license will be recognized in all states, it will cut costs and time, and much frustration.
Best of luck and much patience!

Kora,
Will they not let you work on a temporary license?

My original licensure is from California, and I have endorsed my license into Texas and Oklahoma. As long as you pay the renewal fees in a timely manner and complete the number of CEUs that California requires, you can maintain an active California license while having licensure in other states.
My California license is in delinquent status because I have not paid to renew it. I see no point in keeping my original licensure active if I do not plan on working in California.

thank you for this post. i was worried because I was having difficulties understanding this whole "endorsement."
I have a NY state RN license and am having difficulties finding a job here. I am planning to endorse my license to CA since my family is there. I was worried I would lose my privilege to apply to NY and CA and lose my opportunity to practice in any of these states while I endorse my license to CA.

Go to the BON website of the state(s) you are interested in -- all the information and forms you need should be there. You are looking for information on applying for licensure "by endorsement." Just follow the instructions listed.

Hi Thecommuter,
I'm current license in CA, but I 'm willing to relocated to another state such as a compact license state, Do I have to live in that compact state then apply for endorsement license? or I can apply without living their. Please help
