Has anyone here passed excelsior microbiology? This is the only pre-req I have to take before beginning the nursing component.EC has already accepted all my old pre-req's.
I'm using one of the texts reccomended by EC and it's like reading latin.I'm not retaining any information and I am bored to tears! Please someone, tell me it gets better and that it's passable!

It helped me to pair each germ or class of germs with the diseases that it causes. For example, Borrelia burgdorferi sounds pretty intimidating, but when I associate it with Lyme disease, the information sticks better. Flashcards might be another trick.
Hang in there! It can be heavy reading, but it's very passable. Good luck!

You do not need to wait to take this before you take the Concept exams, just before you take the CPNE. I recommend studying micro around the time you take Concepts 6. They have much of the same info on it . I made an "A" on micro a few months ago.
For those of you who have replied,Thank You so much!I was about ready to throw in the towel, but I guess I will plod on through. It's good to know that this is passable.I'm so glad I don't have to take A&P or Chemistry.I would have been seriously stressed! Thanks again for you words of encouragement!

Yes, it's passable. If I passed it you can. My main study guide was Cliffs Notes for Microbiology.

Its passable. Use Cliff's notes for micro, highllight areas in the book that correspond to the studyguide. Its much less overwhelming than the text and work book. Do the practice exam that EC offers. Questions are VERY similar to the real test.

I made flashcards for almost everything and carried them with me at all times. Whenever I had a couple of minutes, I looked at my cards. This is pretty much how I studied for all the classes. I got an 'A' in Micro. Just follow the content guide and you'll do fine. It was one of the few EC classes where the book followed the content guide perfectly.
Best of Luck to you!!
