I just need to vent Awhile ago NJC in Sterling CO changed their admission process to competitive and that is all fine and dandy but I was pretty much next on the wait list and would of been most likely going into the program this next fall...I was even planning on relocating up there! I just want to scream because I feel like I got screwed and I know that may sound melodramatic but I do...I was having a huge pity party last night. I am sincerely thinking about just throwing in the towel at this point. I don't know what I can do other then go the private/for profit route. I am 29 so I am not 'old' but I also don't feel like I have much more time to be fooling around either and I have been at this for several years now. My prerequisite I had excellent GPA's but last semester I decided to not attend because I cant afford to keep going to school and pretty much 'messing around' while I wait to get in. I have too many loans to beginning with.
I am pretty much at a breaking point I need to either get a RN or LPN program(even willing to relocate maybe) or start to really look into another program or career field because I can't do this anymore:crying2: I have been doing this for the last 5+ yrs and I am just burnt out at this point. I also never thought I wouldn't be even close to having a career at near 30...which would be maybe fine if I hadn't been doing this for the past 5. I have been even looking into Dental assistant, surgical tech, billing & coding and everything in between....I just want to cry

Wow, i am in Florida and have been bouncing around trying to get into an LPN program, it's like nearly impossible. But i do know that there is no waiting list at Keiser College in Miami Lakes, Florida, just an entrance exam called the TABE V and the tuition is $22,000.00 for the year. Your done in 12 months!!! i know the government will give you $6,000.00 in return. So it comes out to $16,000.00 in actuality.

So, they changed their admission to competitive and you said that you had good grades right? If you put in an applicaiton you might still have an excellent chance of getting in. Nothing is easy, least of all trying to get into nursing school. IF you begin on another path, it might take you even longer to start your career.
I understand nothing is easy so I should of probably used another words. It just hurts when you were next in line and then the rug gets pulled out of under you. Yes, my preqes gpa is great but now they added things like CNA(which will take around 6-9 months to get unless I pay for a private program), extra points for living in the area(I'm in Denver....sterling is a couple hrs outside) then also community service or working in health care...I don't mind volunteering and don't work in health care. I talked to the women in charge with the waitlist and she told me if I was to complete the other extra things and pay for a private CNA course, volunteer or take a job in health care, and be willing to relocate up there I might have a chance in 2012-2013....but many of the applicants have yrs of working in health care and rhet will take preference even tho I have a almost 4.0. She also at the end of the convo she herself would NOT relocate to a rural area with limited employment unlesa i was in the program because it wouldn't increase my chances much.
I guess there is the private/for profit schools here that are 47 & 70k

I hope this is not late. There is a school in New Jersey called best care training institute. All you do is the DET entrance test, get a passing score of 60% and start the LPN program. The program is exaclty one year and total is 14,440. More so, it is accredited by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
Good luck.
Oh, forgot to put the exact location. It is in East Orange New Jersey.

47K or 70K?!? That is insane. Where I live it takes a month to become a CNA. The LPN program I'm in takes 12 months and costs 12,000$. You could move here and your tuition and living expenses would be less than 47K. And you would be an LPN a year later, able to go wherever you can find a job. It's a better alternative then spending a stupid amount of money.

I am in Louisiana. I got into a program right away. I had to pass compass tests in math, english, & reading, and I took a challenge test in science and passed it, so I got to go right into the nursing program. The total tuition is less than 6,000 and it is an 18 month course.

Community colleges are a great bet, and also super cheap. In my area, everyone flocked to apply to the RN programs, and the attitude was "Oh, who wants to be an LPN, go for the extra year and be an RN right away!" Well, that mentality cleared the way for me, There were 50 spots and only a little more than 100 people applied for the LPN program, where those 50 spots in the RN program were coveted by over 500 people. Those extra "requirements" which that school is asking of you are BS. All that was important to my community college was your GPA and your TEAS test. All they cared about was a person demonstrating that they have an excellent chance to go the distance in the program and pass the NCLEX on the first try, boosting their pass rate. Good luck! And don't let those private schools take advantage of your desperation.

Here in West Virginia every program for either RN or LPN is competitive included the for profit schools. It really sucks because I really want to a nurse.

Here in Texas its a 12 month program, $5,500 and I got in my first try. Just had to make a 69% or higher on the TEAS. Not many applied and a lot dropped so almost everyone that applied and stuck with the paper work got in. Good luck!
