When you say 'flip book' what do you mean? Are you asking if you can bring a notepad, then, yes, I would say for sure that you can. The nursing drug guide that you have can show you the classifications and names that fit under those classifications. Note the patterns; many of them have similar prefixes or suffixes- for example ACE Inhibitors- generic names all end in 'pril (ie-fosinopril) or most cephlaosporin generic names begin with either 'ceph', things like that, and look at the common side effects. It is easier to break them up in groups.

A book that I always tell people to get is Delmar's Comprehensive Study Guide for NCLEX-PN. They have an excellent pharmacology chapter that will mention many of the same things I just told you, along with indications and common side effects.

I got a box of drug cards from Mosby I think. Still use them sometimes.

I think that purchasing drug cards are a great idea, because you can line up all of the cards that are under one classification and pick out the differences between them. Most of them also have a card that lists drugs by their classifications, so, you'll know in advance just which ones need to come out.

The main suggestion I can give you is to learn the medications by class, not individual names. Also remember that some classes have names that are very similar, for example beta blockers end in "lol" and thyroid medications usually have "thy" somewhere in the word. Good Luck!

Thank you all so much. Got the cards. Got the drug book and got some new pens (I dunno its motivating lol). I have to tell you that nurses do not get enough credit for their knowledge, its incredible all of the information we need to learn and retain.

Once again thank you all for your help :0)
