dressing change

does anyone remember, for a wet to dry dressing change if you need to wear sterile gloves?

i assisted the resident in packing a severerly necrotic and infected c-section wound. she just wore clean gloves not sterile ones.

thanks! :0)

Wound care outside the OR is normally a clean rather than sterile procedure. As long as good aseptic technique was used it's fine.

oh ok! thank you :)

I have heard both.. Any packed wounds in our ICU is done with sterile supplies and gloves. My last hospital, it was just clean.

What does your policy state ?? That would be your answer unless you have specific orders.

oooh, ill check the policies/protocols bc im not really sure!

If you had a deep wound that required wet to dry -- what would you want your nurse weariing clean or sterile globes?

My clinical instructor is a WOCN and she has sought out many dressing changes for us. We use clean gloves but change into a fresh pair when needed during the dressing change, such as right after removing the old dressing. We do not use sterile gloves.

I think this many also be dependent upon hospital/facility policy.
