I'm going to be switching to a psych nursing job soon. I haven't started, but I've been wondering if I'd get in trouble for very short acrylic nails.

Yuck. I suppose it depends on the facility, but it sounds rather "dirty".

Yup, probably a no-go. Everywhere I've ever worked says for infection control, no acrylics and even no gel over natural or artificial nails.

Every facility has it's own policies regarding fingernails and tattoos. You just have to ask during the interview if they are allowed. I stopped wearing even short acrylic nails a few years ago due to the risk for disease transmission.

I work in psych. We are technically not allowed, but a lot of the nurses have gels.

I work in psych and we are allowed acrylics. I get gel done myself. It doesn't last as long but my nails don't get as dirty underneath either!

My suggestion would just be to check policy. You mention that they are short, so it might not be a problem.
