what about DO's?

hey everyone,

How are you? I am a senior in my BSN program but I have also been pre-med for the last four years along with it. I think nursing has been a great experience for me and I think more doctors should take that route..

I was wondering, often I hear people refer to MDs about this or that, well how do you all feel about DO's? From what I know they are also a fully trained physician, with 4 years of medical school, and all rights and specialties. I have heard many doctors(DO's) were once RN's and felt they felt more comfortable in Osteopathic school than Allopathic. I have heard that DO's have made great strides in the last few decades.

My question to all of you who are actually in the work force of health care is what have your experiences been with them???Have you had any with them?? Would you recomend it?

There are only 4 DO's here that I know of.....I wouldn't have a problem going to one.

From what I have heard, it seems like DO's philosophy is in care(like nursing) and cure(following allopathic models) in my opinion it is with both that will lead to an optimal treatment for any patient.

My first family doctor who delivered me was an MD. Great guy but a pill was the cure for most ills.

Have been cared for by two Osteopaths- DO, one was PCP for twenty years (before he decided to leave family practice TO SPEND TIME WITH HIS SONs in evening).

Focus is much more on TOTAL health, discovering underlying problem and LISTENING to patients. Wayne was such an outgoing doc, cracked my back along with poping my rib back into place after bout of bronchitis---properly diagnosed my unrelieved chest pain after cardiac testing showed no problems; 10 seconds later TOTAL relief.
