my local hospital also has 100 jobs posted for rn's, experienced rn's.
what you do not realize is that a new grad cannot simply walk into an icu floor and take off running, you need a lot of extra training and orientation. this is all fine and dandy when you have money to burn on training new grad nurses, but they do not have money to burn, so they hire experienced rn's.
we will get through school and see what happens. i am willing to work anywhere, any shift, any how. skilled nursing, alf,(both of which i have all of my experience in) clinics, health department, hospice, etc..
i am not picky, no kids, supportove fiance', etc.. i believe that in time i will find a job, and i will be happy even if it is not my first pick. i will gain experience, learn, and continue to grow.
you have to keep a good attitude and have the willingness to work anywhere.

Yep. There is no nursing shortage right now. They can afford to be choosy. It is expensive to orient and train a new nurse and often just after orientation and a year of experience are completed they change jobs and go elsewhere. Not a lot of motivation right now for new grads to be hired. Networking during school is intensely important these days.

Just because there is a job listing does not mean that a viable job to be filled exists. For whatever reason, many employers have listings that are not genuine. I responded to an ad recently for a specific job. When I inquired about it I had to provide all of the information given, they did not know what I was talking about. Then, when they understood what I was referring to, they told me that particular position did not exist. I did not ask the next logical question, why did you place the ad then? Obviously, the ad was nothing more than a lure.

It really depends on the area. Here in upstate NY they are still hiring new grads. No sign on bonuses anymore and you may not get your first pick. But I do know there are areas that are not hiring new grads. As others have stated, it is expensive training a new grad for 12-16 weeks.
