Don't know how to quit

Hello all!! I'm a new nurse. Will have one year experience Jan 21, 2008. I work on a med-surg tele floor and am just so fed up. I've never quit anything in my life. I was in the Marine Corps for 8 years and I felt like a traitor when i decided to leave. I am finding it so hard to just quit this job. I love nursing. I love my patients but I do not like the people I work with. Its so bad that I find myself looking at who I'll be working with then deciding, "I will not have a good night if I work with these people" and decide to call in. I have only called in twice but now I'm seriously debating it once a week. I usually find someone to switch the shift with me but I can't go through my career on this floor doing this. There's so much shadiness. For example, if you aren't in the clique you get pooped on. Case in point, come in and get my assignment. We have 20 patients and 5 nurses, sound easy huh? Well for some reason, I end up with 2 patients and am told: "you can take the admissions" and when I speak up about it, I'm told "don't be *****" and then for some reason the NM is told that I have an attitude problem. No I don't have an attitude problem, I am the type to just speak up for myself unlike some people that I work with who just take being pooped on. I can go on and on about such shody behavior but my main question is how do I leave this unfavorable working environment without feeling bad?

I will say most importantly to make sure you have another job lined up before you quit.

Then, give as much notice as they need you to, possibly up to 6 weeks if need be.

Should be no problem.

i use to work for corporate america and for some reason the politics are the same but played differently. in corporate america its about position and in the healthcare field its all about who you know.

if you're looking elsewhere ask at the interview "how t h e y (the mgr) would handle a situation that you just explained on their floor?"
