Does working L&D make you want more babies?

Published

I strongly desire to work as a nurse in women's health one day, mostly because I love taking care of women and I love learning about women's health. I have 2 children who are 5 (twins), and often feel satisfied with 2, but sometimes wish my husband was on board with another (he is NOT). Will working with pregnant women and babies be torture, or maybe it will actually be fulfilling to be taking care of women and babies but not having to bring them home :)

I read someone saying it is very hard to see babies withdrawing from drugs, and man that sounds hard, also knowing that they have a hard life ahead of them.

Just wanted to know what you thought?

thanks,

Stacy

I love babies but the ob rotation scared the hell out of me. I mean I loved taking care of the mother and the baby, but seeing what actually happens and the screaming omg.

I work in Labor and Delivery as a Secretary. The environment probably works the opposite for me, but I find that there's always a wave of pregnant staff members.

L&D is the best birth control ever for me! Most babies are born into stable families here, but taking care of mom and babes with complex home issues or unstable situations makes me grateful for my two girls. Good luck!

I witnessed my sister-in-law give birth last weekend and my stomach was in knots for 3 days, lol. I have given birth naturally to 5 babies and epidural with 1. Watching the pain involved day after day, I think, would be birth control:D

Now I just have to stay away from the babyas much as possible, hehe.

Working L+D has made me want to have more babies. I have 4 and am trying to convince hubby we need another. I miss being pregnant, going through labor (I know I am crazy!) and miss breastfeeding and just that yummy newborn stage.

I think my "babyitis" would be worse if i didn't work L+D. I get to see newborns every day and help moms with breastfeeding, etc... so it fulfills some of my needs. I just want my own again!!!!!!!

It hasn't really changed how I feel about the size of my family. I have 2 children and my husband and I knew that was enough for us. My work environment hasn't effected that. Some labors touch my heart more than others, and I can get a little nostalgic, but after 7yrs in L and D, we're still a family of 4. :-)

Working in L&D does not make me want to have more children. I have four which is plenty! I love what I do and get to see babies all the time! I say go for it if hat is where you want to work!

Thanks Everyone! Sounds like there is a chance it will actually make me even more content with the (now 5.5 years old) babies I have. :) We will see.
