Does your hospital pay?

Do hospitals throughout the country pay for association memberships, certifications, or renewals? Do they offer any financial assistance at all?

Varies greatly from hospital to hospital. Those are the things you need to be asking while job-hunting to help you make your decision. Too many nurses focus only on the pay scale and end up losing in the long run. Sometimes the place offering the lower amount of cash actually pays more in benefits.

My hospital pays for specialty certification and renewals, but not association memberships. We also get a little tuition reimbursement and lots of opportunities for free continuing education credit.

We are reimbursed for initial and subsequent recertification, at the member rate, but not membership; providing it is included in the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet program recognized certifications list. There is no limit to the number of certifications that they will reimburse, although it requires manager's approval.

We also have a fairly decent tuition reimbursement, as well as paid access to an extensive on-line continuing education program.

We get a bonus for certification (up to 4 I believe) but we pay for the test. I pay all my association fees (they are tax deductible) I do get enough free CEUs to renew my license and opportunities to get the trauma and ortho hours I am required to complete.
