Do I have any options????

Published

I just failed the first class of my second year in an associates nursing program in IL. I do not know what to do or what my options really are. Can I get my LPN? I have no idea and really feel lost. I want to still pursue my career as a nurse. I did not fail by much. In my program if you fail two tests you are out......I have a B in the class but failed two tests by 1 point!!!!! I am so frustrated and disappointed. Ilove nursing and really want to continue to pursue it as a career.....I do not have a lot of financial resources which limits my options......PLEASE HELP!!!

So sorry you're going through this. It seems so unfair when it's just one point! But it's like this everywhere.

Do you have an advisor in your nursing program or on campus? He/she should be able to tell you what your options are. Each program is different in terms of re-admission, repetition of courses, etc. so it would be difficult for us to give you any useful advice here.

If you could, and RN is your ultimate goal, I would just take a year off from school (work as a CNA during this time), and pick up where you left off in your RN program. IF, the school will allow this.

Super good luck!

I think the LPN option depends on your state BON. My advice is to find a job working around nurses while you wait to get readmitted to the program.

I'm sorry that happened to you but in the meantime figure out what you can change about yourself and your study habits to ensure EVERY test grade is passing.

Can you appeal? It seems insane to fail a student for 2 failed quizzes when your overall grade is a B in the course. I would look at your student handbook and follow the appeals process. Don't be demanding but if you can get someone to go to bat for you you may be allowed to remediate the material.

Wishing you the best.
