Do contracts get delayed often?

On March 16, 2008 I will have my full year in and can start traveling. I have looked into many agencies and have read alot of the postings on this site. Is it usual for a traveler to start a contract on THE DAY the agency tells you that you will or are delays common? I plan on putting in my 30 days in Febuary, but really need to know that I am secure and will start when the agency tells me I will. I know nothing is for sure, but would really like to know everyone's thoughts on this and whatever else you can suggest.

Be absolutely sure that you're current position is terminated before your travel assignment begins. And be flexible enough with time to have packed, traveled, reach your destination, and settle in to your new place. The date they give you is it. I haven't encountered a delay, nor have the other travelers that I have met. We've started on the day that was given. The date given is set usually for orientation or your preceptorshipor both.

I have been traveling for a year, and my very first assignment was delayed by one week- the hospital wanted to start my orientation the same day as some other travelers, so, yes, there can be delays, but not usually. You need to have enough in savings that you would be able to go an extra week without getting paid, if that should happen.

Be aware that your start day is when the facility states so, not what the agency may tell you. Also be sure that you have been accepted by a facility before you leave your current job. You may have signed with an agency, but they need to place you before you can begin work, so do not do a thing until you have a written contract in place.

And please be aware that many facilities will not take someone now without close to two years of experience, even if the agency only requires one. They are going to market you, and they do not get paid if you do not get placed, and you do not get paid if you do not get placed.
