Do you always have to wait on a list to get in?

I'm planning to go to nursing school. I'm doing my Pre-reqs' right now. My current school has a nursing program but it's during the day. I have to take my classes at night because I have a day job and it's fulltime. Anyway, my question is, I keep hearing about people having to wait on a list to get in. Is that only if they're applying directly to the school and the nursing program? I will be a transfer and have all my Pre-req's done. I wouldn't expect to have to wait to get in when all I need are my nursing classes. Thanks!

It all depends on the program you are applying to. Some schools use waiting lists and some do not. Some people on waiting lists have all of their pre-reqs done and are just waiting to take nursing classes but there are too many applicants. Some schools make everyone apply every year and take the most qualified out of the applicants and if you don't get in you just have to reapply the following year. Unfortunately just because you have all of your pre-reqs done doesn't mean you will be able to get right in. The best thing to do is to talk to an advisor at the school you are interested in and find out how their admissions process is.

I know at the school I want to attend, which is the cc I've been going to, there is a lottery to get into the program itself because it (the RN program) is so impacted. There is no wait list to get into the school, just the program. It may depend on whether or not you are going to go to a cc or a university, or another type of school. The best advice I can give is to sit down with a counselor (although you probably have already done that) and share your concerns. Hopefully you will have a good counselor, like I do, and yours will be able to clear up any confusion you have.

Many of the very expensive private colleges and universities have no waiting lists for their nursing programs if you are ready and willing to pay between $6,000 to $10,000 for each semester.

What are you doing in the mean time to pass the waiting time for the list?

I'm putting apps into the local hospitals, hoping to find any type of job I am qualified for. I'm doing that because a) I need money , and b) I think it would be a good idea for me to get the feel of working in a hospital. In addition, I know that hospitals will be more willing to work with my schedule when I go back to school, as opposed to working at a regular office.

I'm also spending time with my two sons and hubby :heartbeat (didn't get to do much of that last semester).
