  1. Thank you for the responses. After the research I was doing yesterday and talking to a few people, I think I am going to stick with my goal to get into nursing school. It just seems that I should atleast try. If I don't get in though, I'm going to have to settle for MA. Retaking some classes to get my GPA up could be an option.
  2. Hi, I'm in a little bit of a rut. I would like to go into nursing and get my LPN. But I went and talked to a counselor if I should do this or not. She recommended with my grades (not being great) that I should try and get into medical assisting instead and come back to nursing later on. Are grades REALLY that important in nursing? I mean I know for a fact I could never make straight A's, maybe B's. My GPA is a 3.0 right now. But I'm just wondering if I have all my pre-reqs done, apply to nursing school at several different schools, that one of them would let me in. But if I go into medical assisting instead, money isn't that great and it'll be easier to get through. What do you think I should do? Is medical assisting the alternative for people with not so great grades? Thanks.
  3. I am taking my pre-reqs now for the nursing program. I'm trying to get a gameplan because I live in Atlanta (have all my life) and want to get out of here. I would prefer to go to a school out of the area but I don't know where yet. How do I know what classes to take if I don't know what school I'll be able to get into? I don't get straight A's so I know I'm going to have to just go where I can get in. Also, I've heard there's always a waiting list to wait on. What do you do in that time? Should I apply soon so I'm still getting my pre-reqs for the program and when I'm done I won't have to wait? What do you other people do in this case? Thank you.
  4. I'm taking A&P this summer. I'm really excited about it. Hopefully I won't pass out from seeing too much guts/gore though. I'm really looking forward to the class though since I'll learn all about the human body.
  5. Ok. I have recently decided to take up a BS in nursing. There's severals schools around that I can get into, as none of them are really competitive schools just maybe the programs. I keep reading about waiting lists of like 2 yrs or something. Who has time for that? Are they putting people on a list that have finished all their pre-req's? I think that's very crappy. What are people doing that are put in this situation? Changing their major, getting a CNA first? I thought about the CNA route just so I can stop working admin jobs and get into the medical field. But I don't want to spend the extra money on something that will do me good for only a few yrs. So, what are the options here?
  6. Hi, I've been on these boards for a while now, reading what others advice. But I'm stuck and can't decide what the best route is for me. I'm planning on going into nursing. I'm currently at a technical school. They have a nursing program but its 2 year and during the day. I have a full-time, day job so the program at my school doesn't work for me. I was thinking I could get my core classes at my current school and then transfer over to a university for the nursing program. I've read alot on here about people becoming a CNA, so they can get to work and then going into nursing. There is a CNA program at the tech school and they have night classes. Do you advice this for me? Are CNA programs typically hard to get into as well? I don't want to just be a CNA as I know there's not much money in it, and I want to do more. So, my goal is to become an RN. How should I go about this? Thanks.
  7. I'm not actually in nursing school yet, but I hear it's hard to get into 2 year college. Harder than a university anyway. They also require you to take day classes. I don't have that option. I'm in Atlanta as well. I've heard some bad stuff at GPC but I'm just going by hearsay. I would never go to Georgia State, but that's just me. Plan to actually go to Kennesaw State University. I hear they have a real good nursing program. Chattahoochee Tech is another option if you decide on the 2 year degree. Again, you gotta deal with getting all your pre-reqs first. I would be interested to know if you can get the same kind of job/make the same amount of money with a 2 year degree myself.
  8. I'm planning to go to nursing school. I'm doing my Pre-reqs' right now. My current school has a nursing program but it's during the day. I have to take my classes at night because I have a day job and it's fulltime. Anyway, my question is, I keep hearing about people having to wait on a list to get in. Is that only if they're applying directly to the school and the nursing program? I will be a transfer and have all my Pre-req's done. I wouldn't expect to have to wait to get in when all I need are my nursing classes. Thanks!
  9. I guess noone knows anything about this school? Oh well, 4 yr university for me then..
  10. Hi, I'm trying to decide if I want to go to nursing school for an associates or a bachelors. Most of the programs here in Atlanta only have day classes for an associates program. Is North Metro one of those? Or do they have night classes? I can't take day classes because I have to work.Anything you can tell me about their program? Is it hard to get into? Thanks!
  11. Hi, I am new here and this is my first time posting to the boards. I live in Atlanta GA. I have been looking into the medical field for quite some time now. I have decided that Nursing is going to be my career choice. I am a student at Chattahoochee Tech, a technical school here. They have a nursing program but it is day classes only. I work fulltime during the day so this is not possible for me. I would really like to transfer to Kennesaw State University. My problem is, with me not taking college prep classes in high school, I have to get 30-40 credits( depending on the school I transfer to) to get into any University. Now, I keep hearing about waiting lists/having to do really well in Pre-req classes. Well, I have about a year before I will have the credits I need to transfer. I can't apply now to any 4 yr schools because of my delimma (sp?) with credits. What would you suggest I do to make sure I don't have a huge waiting period before being accepted in the nursing program? Should I apply to several different schools, 2 yr/4 yr? How do I know what classes to take at my current school if I don't know what school I will actually be transfering to? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
