Do all A and P classes need a Bio pre requisite?

Hi all,

I am currently living outside the US and plan on applying for nursing school for 2014 so am trying to get started on my pre reqs ( I have a bachelors and a masters but not in nursing)...A and P seems to be the biggest issue...I have seen some people reccommend online classes but they all seem to have at least an in person exam and I won't be in the US till next year so...

Would it be possible to do A and P online without lab and then just take the lab component when I am back in the US or does it need to happen simultaneously?

Like most people I don't know how I'll pay for pre reqs let alone nursing school- I don't qualify for instate tuition anywhere since I am "stateless"....

I will be based in Boston MA on my return if that helps

Em

EmmKay: Sorry for the delay in responding. I did have to go through the whole admissions process, but the school was great to work with and super fast. If it helps, I also needed microbiology online. I took it from Delgado Community College (http://www.dcc.edu) in Louisiana. I'm not sure if they have a lab or not. If I remember correctly they do, but my school didn't require the one as a prerequisite, so I'm not sure about that. If this course doesn't work for you try a Google search for one that will. That's how I found both if my courses at smaller community colleges. Good luck!

Also, I am having the exams for this class proctored by my local university so I don't have to physically be there. I would think most online courses would allow you to do this ad long as it is at a reputable site. All the colleges/universities in my area offer this service free or for a small fee, as do many libraries.

@asteck I am signed up to take microbiology 210 online from Delgado this summer. Can you give me any insight into how the class is? Delgado's website is severely lacking information on online courses. I did very well in Bio 141 lecture/lab, but it was an actual lecture, so I'm a little concerned on how it will do. How was it?

Does anyone know of a good A and P with lab online?

Look up schools a lot of arn programs in my area will not take A&P online or any class with a lab.

It depends on the school you wish to attend. My school requires either an intro Biology course or an intro Chem course before you can register for Anatomy (Physiology is a separate class at my school). The previous college I went to requires Bio AND Microbiology before taking A&P. Like I said before, it all depends on the school. Each is different with their requirements. Also, our school does not separate the lab from lecture when it comes to Anatomy or Physiology. They are a combined class (same prof for both) and no getting around that. Micro & Chem, on the other hand, both have a separate lab.

I wouldn't recommend taking A&P unless you can do the lab at the same time.
