Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?

Thanks for all of your responses to all of my previous posts. As you probably assume, I'm evaluating all of my options including ADN, BSN, and Direct-Entry MSN. The direct entry programs look extremely appealing, but seeing that they are at the best of colleges, I don't know how easy they are to get in.

Does anyone know what the typical GPA, scores, acceptance rates of these programs are? Anyone have any experience applying?

I'm in MD, so I'd consider Hopkins, but Columbia, MGHI in Mass, Case Western, Vanderbilt, Pace, and Yale also look appealing.

Seeing as nursing traditionally isn't an "ivy league" profession, are the credentials required for these programs less than what a typical "ivy" student would need?

I'd love to hear experiences with any programs.........

Hi Smile123!!

Thank you for that positive karma! Thanks to Jess also!

Hi everyone,

I've been a longtime lurker on this thread, but I've been in touch with some of you on other boards. I know that many of you are going to direct entry programs in Boston, and I will most likely be joining some of you at MGH. I was planning to attend the Univ. of Rochester in NY because I didn't get into BC (rejected) or MGH at first. However, I just found out today that I was accepted off the wait list at MGH for the family track!! :) :) I live in CT and did my undergrad in Maine, so I really want to stay in New England. And besides, Boston is a great city with great hospitals....the only downside is the expense.

I really want to encourage other people on wait lists (including those at MGH) to stay positive! I was starting to run out of hope and time, since Rochester starts in May, but now I don't have to worry anymore. I can't wait to finally start school, and hopefully I'll be seeing you "MGHers" in the fall!

Congratulations Kris!!! And thanks for reminding us waitlisters to remain hopeful. :) When does the MGH program start?

Kris:Thats great for you to get accepted! Did they email you or write you a letter? I know someone else who is waiting to hear.

When do u have to repsond by?

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. We're almost there.

Thanks, Gen for the directions! I am not sure if I will fly or not, it kind of depends on when the interview is. My husband and I would like to drive out to spend some time in the city if possible. We'll have to balance that with taking time off of work and more importantly, having a one year old in the car for fourteen hours. Hopefully it will be on a Monday or Friday and we can take a long weekend. If that doesn't work out I will probably just fly in by myself. In that case I really appreciate the directions because I would have been lost.

I'm originally from Iowa so I have spent some time in Chicago but I don't know it well. We are planning to buy a house, etc so we should be spending some time there in the near future. I can't wait, I live in the exact middle of nowhere right now. Looking forward to seeing civilization again.

Have you heard anything else from them yet on scheduling the interview? I haven't and I'm curious how long it will take.

Have a nice weekend!

Courtney

I got a letter from MGH in the mail today. I emailed the director of the grad program a couple weeks ago to find out my status on the waitlist, but I never heard anything until I got this letter. THey have to receive my deposit and acceptance agreement by Wednesday, April 6. Not much time for me to think about it (but I'm sure I'll go). I'm sure that there will be at least a couple rounds of people being accepted off the waitlist, since some people will probably turn them down. My original letter from them said that the process could take a long time, but luckily for me, it worked out pretty quickly.

Seahorse, the first day of classes at MGH is right after labor day, I think. They offer classes over the summer for people who haven't finished the prereqs, but I'm done with all of those, so I'll be moving up to Boston sometime near the end of the summer.

Hi Kris,

Diana here from Portland. I'll be seeing you at MGH this fall! I'm doing dual Adult/Gerontology but I'm sure we'll be in the same classes early on. I think there are about 4 of us on this board going to MGH. Congrats!

Kris- Big congrats on your acceptance to MGH!! That's great news! I think if you are planning on living/working in the Boston area after graduation - it is certainly the school to pick- with all of the MGH and Boston area clinical affiliations! Way to go!! :balloons:

Hi,

I hope you have good weather! I have done the drive from Chicago to western NY (state) and back a couple of times and 9 hours was the standard, (that was far western NY).

So far no word but, the 'big' news was that its even coming! :)

Gen

p.s. okay now its time to focus on my homework projects, six senior classes this semester and I need to really pour on the 'efficiency' for the next 5.5 weeks- which is so hard because of the GEP stuff :)

Hi guys-

I got my acceptance letter from Regis yesterday!!!!! I am so excited and finally over the pity party I was having for myself after I got the reject letter from Simmons.

Congradulations Kris on your acceptance to MGH! :yeah: I'm on the MGH wait list for the Dual Adult/Mental Health and would prefer to go there, but I'm not going to be obsessing about it as much, now that Im in Regis:bugeyes:

I called last week to find out my status on the wait list at MGH, but they said they haven't really put it together yet. Which sounded pretty strange, so Im not sure if I'm getting the brush off or not. But I still have hope.

It's so funny because the minute that I stopped worrying about where I will get in and stopped running to the mailbox, I got the letter. Isn't that how it always works?

Congrats Kim!! That's great news about Regis! Fingers crossed you'll hear from MGH too and then you can choose between them. Even if you don't though, Regis is a great program and I'm sure you'd love it! :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:

Yay kim! That's how it happened to me - I got two rejections and then a month went by. I figured my app to Columbia must have been so bad they weren't even going to bother formally rejecting me! That did actually happen when I applied to Johns Hopkins postbacc program! But lo and behold, there was that acceptance from Columbia, way after I had given up all hope.
