Direct-entry MSN programs
Hi Everyone! I was writing more often back when we were all still waiting for acceptance letters (a time period that I try to block out ). but to refresh, I'm starting the Direct entry MSN at Regis College in Boston this fall (classes, start Sept. 6th). I've been insanely busy finishing up prereq's (they're done in 2 weeks, thank the Lord) and working FT, so I haven't had time to drop a line. I'm just starting to shop around for supplies and shoes and my question is for Jess: What store did you find the shoes that you liked (in Boston, im assuming?) What kind were they? I'm looking for Dansko's Professional white leather, clog with heel (Regis requires a heel and white color). Simon's shoe store in Brookline Village carries them, but they sell them for $110! So now I'm open to other brands that may be less expensive (If anyone has any suggestions) Also, are you going to order your stethescope from somewhere (ex: allheart.com) or do you know of a medical supply store that would sell them around Boston? Good luck to everyone! Kim

Anyone from Regis College?
Sorry to hear about your dilemma. The teaching staff at Regis seem to be very flexible and understanding, so you may want to meet with the director of nursing and see if there's anything you can work out. Good Luck!

Direct entry and graduate entry programs II
Hi guys! Have you all gotten your stethescope yet? What kind are you getting and where can I get it discounted? I already ordered my clinical scrubs, shirts, lab coat, but that's about it. I just can't afford too much after that! :uhoh21: Thanks Kim

Anyone from Regis College?
I will be attending the Direct Entry MSN program this Fall at Regis. Not sure if that's the program you're interested in, but I am very excited about it. It does have a great reputation around the Boston area. The classes are offered day and evening, as well as clinicals. What other kind of info are you looking for? Kim

Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?
Hi Jess- I can't believe that I never even noticed that MGH doesn't award a BSN, I just assumed they did. Ok, so I feel even better now about going to Regis. :) Thanks so much for your help!!! Kim

Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?
Jess- From what I remember, your friend was in the Psychiatric NP track, right? I ask because I've also applied for that track and was waitlisted at MGH and accepted at Regis. I'm definately happy to go to Regis, but if taken off of the waitlist at MGH, would go for it in a heart beat (mainly because of its ranking and reputation in the medical field). Which is why I was surprised that your friend chose Regis over MGH... could you let me know why he made that decision? Maybe he has a perspective on these schools that I'm not seeing. Thanks! Kim

Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?
Hi guys- I got my acceptance letter from Regis yesterday!!!!! I am so excited and finally over the pity party I was having for myself after I got the reject letter from Simmons. Congradulations Kris on your acceptance to MGH! I'm on the MGH wait list for the Dual Adult/Mental Health and would prefer to go there, but I'm not going to be obsessing about it as much, now that Im in Regis:bugeyes: I called last week to find out my status on the wait list at MGH, but they said they haven't really put it together yet. Which sounded pretty strange, so Im not sure if I'm getting the brush off or not. But I still have hope. It's so funny because the minute that I stopped worrying about where I will get in and stopped running to the mailbox, I got the letter. Isn't that how it always works? Kim

Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?
Jess- I'm taking A& P 1 with Dr. Farmar and Micro with Dr. Saman. Saman is pretty good, very knowledgeable and his exams are manageable, but his accent makes it difficult to understand him all the time (which doesn't help with micro terminology that already sounds like chinese). Thanks for everyone's input and advice, it's been very helpful and I wish I would've found this thread a long time ago!!! I called MGH yesterday and they wouldn't give me anymore info. about my waitlist status...I am losing patience at a rapid speed right now. I have gone through these cycles of waiting and limbo to hear if I'll be in school for the fall and it's killing me. But it helps so much to hear that other people are going through the same thing. Oh, and Congrats James! Kim

Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?
Jess- Do you mind letting me know what your undergrad major was and your GRE, GPA stats? And why you picked Women's Health and Family as specialties? I just want to get an idea of the kind of backgrounds and experience applicants to this direct entry program. Also, maybe I can get some tips rom you because you've had great success so far in getting into the top schools for this program in Mass! -Kim

Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?
I applied as Dual Adult/Psych-Mental Health specialty at MGH and Mental Health at Regis. Truth be told, I am not 100% sure about going into this specialty, but I have a Bachelors in Psych from B.C. and have worked as a Mental Health Counselor for the past 2 and a half years, so I felt it was my best chance to get in. I am positive about going into nursing though, just have a few areas of interest right now. But now I am getting nervous that MGH (my top choice school) may not have had as many slots for the Mental Health track, which would decrease my chances of getting off of the wait list. But at the same time, I remember checking off 3 or 4 additional specialty preferences on the application for MGH, so maybe they will pull me off of the wait list if a spot in another specialty that I chose opens up? aaaahhhh, help me, I am analyzing this to death!!!! :rotfl: I just need to relax and know that I have done everything I can at this point, and it's up to fate whether a spot opens up in my specialty. And thanks, Jess, for your advice on Regis and MGH. I agree that Regis is appealing for their strong clinical emphasis and a lot less expensive. During my interview with Regis back in Dec., I was told that I was a "good candidate" for their program, except they needed to see a midterm report of the hard science prerequisites, as I didn't do so hot in my basic science courses at B.C. I am getting solid A's in Micro and A&P 1 at Mass Bay, and had the professors email midterm reports to Regis and MGH last week. So basically, I am hoping that Regis will make their decision soon after the see that I can do well in science courses. But you never know. As for MGH, I spoke to them last week and they said that they would start to pull people off the wait list next week. So here comes another round of franticly racing to the mailbox, or trying to stop myself from obsessively calling these poor admission offices looking for any clues to my status :imbar

Hospital jobs, CNA training, Nursing school
I also have a BA in psych and applied to Direct Entry NP programs at MGH, Simmons, and Regis, but am waitlisted at 2 of them so far...so im considering accelerated BSN, then BSN to MS What are the 3 Second Career BSN programs you know of in MA? I live in Brighton, MA and the closest one I found was at Curry College in Milton. I've thought that if I don't end up getting in anywhere, I would try to get a CNA position or at least volunteer. Has anyone heard of any good volunteer positions that would be worthwhile to amp up my application to these nursing programs? Thanks!

Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?
Hi All- Congrats to everyone who has been accepted to some great schools!!! I've been reading this thread while waiting to hear back from direct entry programs in MA for Fall, which has really helped with the anticipation anxiety! I applied to MGH, Simmons, and Regis and got rejected from Simmons and waitlisted at MGH and Regis. I was pretty crushed when the first school I heard back from was a rejection from Simmons, but feel hopeful about MGH and Regis. I spoke to someone from MGH this week and they said that they will start pulling people from the wait list next week. She looked over my case and said it's "possible" that I will be pulled, which could mean anything!!! :uhoh21: Also, just curious...what have you guys heard about the direct entry program at Regis? And also, what have you think about wait lists and the chances of getting pulled? Thanks!
