what is the difference in pay

I know pay is different in areas but what dollar amount difference is the pay for a Lvn and RN? Just a few dollars or 10 dollars or what? My mom is a LVN and can make $20 an hour but I have heard RN's are only making 21 or 22 an hour where I live. So does that mean RN's are only making $2 or $3 more than a LVN? Just wondering about this. Not sure if the extra year of school is really worth it.

THanks

That is a pretty good difference. How long did you have to work as an RN to make that? They dont start out making that do they?

This helps. Thanks

i started out as a lpn and then finished RN school for a total of 22 years.. my other sister who is a RN makes $45.00 an hour and has been a RN since 1986. i think alot of your wages depend on where you live and the shortage in the area, i think new grads start her at $24 an hour. you di what you think is best for you. being a LPN is a good job and i love all the LPN's i work with. they are wonderful nurses, but they do the same job as me ( with a few minor exceptions) and get paid less. and it's a shame. anyway take care and keep me posted

My current workplace starts LVNs off at $18 hourly, and RNs at $23 hourly. As you can see, that's only a $5 pay gap per hour. I am due to start a new job next week at a local nursing home that starts LVNs out at $23 per hour.

My area of residence is unique because the local job market is flooded with RNs, which serves to lower the pay rates for RNs around here. However, there's a shortage of LVNs willing to work in the local rehab and extended care facilities, which serves to raise the pay rates for LVNs in this area.

I'm a new grad LPN working at an LTC and I make 45K. My cousin is a new grad BSN working in a CCU step-down and she makes 76k (with night differential). She has tons more responsibility and stress than I do but that is a HUGE difference to me.

I'm definitely going for my RN.
