It is now called Chamberlain College of Nursing. Any thoughts?

Hi,
I personally had bad views about Deaconess from the beginning. I mean, does it make sense to get a Nursing degree (associates) online. I don't want a nurse who got their degree online. I checked them out on the Missouri State Board website and less the 70% of the students passes the NCLEX. Shocking isn't it. I feel they changed their name hoping that they can turn around what they started. May newcomers to St Louis won't know but we all know it is still Deaconess College of Nursing.
Chamberlain offers a BSN that has a higher pass rate. The reason for the name change is that about a year ago the school was bought by Devry. Devry has a good track record with making good schools.

I recieved my degree through Deaconess and I felt like the instructors were very knowledgeable and caring. My problem was on the administration level. I think most everyone in my class would agree. Most are un-friendly on the business level and I always dreaded dealing with anyone on the 1st floor, but you really don't have to deal with them very much. The instructors would go up and above what they needed to do to help you. I think the problem is the online programs and I don't think it is fair to blame the college for this. People sometimes aren't as motivated with online education and I feel that is why the program isn't working out. Some people just want to do it the easy way and we all know nursing school isn't easy!
Edited to say: I don't want to give the impression that all online students do not apply themselves. Just some may not..
When I started the thread I was just curious if people liked the name or not. I am also a student at Chamberlain currently, My experience has been that the Fontbonne instructors treat us like stepchildren. We pay the same as other Fontbonne students but have to sit in unairconditioned class rooms and have no access to the professor outside of class.

Well said. Like I said in the other thread about Chamberlain/Deaconess, I attended this school for one semester and I was very disappointed. I currently attend UMSL (graduating in December! ) and I could not ask for a better nursing education than the one I've gotten at UMSL.

The pass rate for RN NCLEX is much higher. I graduated in 2005 (online) and all but two in my class passed on their first try. The pass rate for the next class was even higher.
There's nothing wrong with an online nursing education. If you have a good clinical preceptor and study hard, there's no reason why you will not be a competent nurse.
