Dallas Nurses

Just right off the top of my head I know the Veterans Hospital in Dallas hires LVN's (LPN's should be an equivalent) and there are numerous opportunities in the home health field.

Dallas County Community College has a Bridge program for LVN/LPN and Texas Women's University in Dallas has a LVN/LPN to BSN program.

I do not know of a single LVN/LPN working in Presby Dallas at the time I was there (about a year ago). In fact, I knew a girl who got her LVN and then could not work at that hospital (which seemed odd to her, since they paid for her training!). Since Presby Dallas is part of the larger group called "Texas Health Resources," one might reasonably assume that none of those facilities will hire an LVN.

I have a friend who is an LVN working at Life Care in Plano--they have LTC's but they also have acute and subacute facilities--she has worked hard and gotten some well deserved promotions and raises. So you might check there.

You might check out Excelsior College--I used it for my ADN and was very pleased. An LVN/LPN is one credential which, provided you got it at an accredited school, guarantees admission. This works if you are good at self-discipline and independent study. Not good if you really need the structure of a classroom, assignments, scheduled tests, etc. Check out the independent learning threads in the student nursing forums or PM me--glad to chat about Excelsior! (It's in NY, btw, but you don't have to go there.)

I don't know about any brick-and-mortar fast track bridge programs in the Dallas area, doesn't mean there aren't any.... You might check with the community colleges. These have ADN programs and might have either night classes or a bridge program....

Dallas County Community College District (El Centro and Brookhaven campuses)

Collin County Community College District (McKinney campus)

Grayson County Community College (in Sherman)

I'm in Louisiana and I'm relocating to Dallas this summer. I was interested in working at Baylor, do they hire LVN's?

Also how hard is it to get into RN school at the present. I have all the prerequistes...just curious about waiting lists and so on.

Try this site and see if you can find the answers to your questions about Baylor. They have "Big Baylor," which is in downtown Dallas, and there are a lot of other Baylors (which are also pretty large) in neighboring communities. The most recent is Baylor Plano. They just opened last month.

As far as RN school, there are waiting lists unless you have a very good GPA. Since you already have your LVN, you might wish to check into http://www.Excelsior.edu. This is Excelsior College, there are a lot of us here who are alums (including moi).

I work at Childrens Medical Center in Dallas and they hire LVNs. I think Medical City also hires LVNs. I'm not too sure about the ADN programs...i know about Excelsior because an LVN I work with is doing it, she seems to like it. I graduated from TWU, but I can't remember about their programs....sorry! Good luck, and welcome to Dallas!

I live just south of Ft Worth but.... I can tell you that the life care hospitals where a great experience for me when I was doing agency. I know Harris and partners hire LVN's( now that is here in Ft Worth I would assume it is the same in Dallas). The last time I checked into it All Saints here in Ft Worth did not hire LVN's ,and they are a part of the Baylor system. This could have changed by now. As far as school goes Dallas community college, Trinity valley community college -Kaufman or the Jr college in Waxahachie has LVN to RN programs. I think there is a shortage of LVN to RN programs in North Texas , it seems they have just forgot we LVN's exist and are looking for a way up the ladder. One of the biggest colleges in N Tx shut their LVN to RN transition down.. Right before I was about to apply... How lucky can I get... Good luck to you.

I'm relocating soon (From Arkansas), and was curious about the hospitals in and around Dallas. I'm an LPN who has primarily worked in a hospital setting out here in Arkansas. I know some areas don't utilize LPN's in the hospital setting and was wondering if any Dallas area nurses could fill me in on the LPN role in that area.

I don't know if this has been addressed, but what should you expect as far as pay as an LVN in dallas.

Also...we're not very familar with the area and if any has any info on neighborhoods, schools etc. I would greatly appreciate it. We're looking at Irving, or Arlington. Thanks :)

Realizing you are off potential employers and onto neighborhoods (about which I know nothing), allow me a temporary hijack--

My current employer (which, so far, seems very, very nice) is Medical City of Dallas. They hire LVN's. And they are familiar with Excelsior, should you opt to go that way.

Medical Center of Plano hires LVNs. I know there are some in postpartum and nursery, but I'm not sure about other departments.

How far is Plano from "Dallas"? I'm a certified doula as well as an LVN so I do better with babies and mommies. However at the present I'm on an oncology floor.

Plano is a northern suburb of Dallas. It is a really nice area, but expensive.
