Mar 2, 201115 yr Experts Well, alright then, jahra et al-Yeah- it's better to be on dry, solid ground when you're dealing with an instability like an injured ankle. I find if I just work those chronic injuries... just a bit... they're more tolerable. I did a 12 mile bike ride. Came home to split wood. I got some upper body exercise going when a slab of Red Oak flew off the log I was splitting and hit me in the shin. RICE'd it immediately. I can treat my own injuries- being a Nurse lowers my "High Maintenance " standing.I'll be back.Dave
Mar 10, 201115 yr Author Here I am! Just finished one hour of pilates, and will do one hour ofclassical stretch this pm.Davey Do, please be careful with the task of splitting wood, the rule fornurses is not to get turfed to the hospital on your free time.Home zone is where I injured the ankle, helping with lawn mowing. Now I change TV stations when the Home Depot ads are on , "more saving, more doing",thats the power of getting turfed to ortho after an injury for me. So much for the do it yourself concept..
Apr 1, 201115 yr Author Dance workout, and barre workout this a.m. as it is snowing hereon April 1. No joke. I am looking for Spring, can't wait to get outsideand hit the garden. Plans to walk outside canceled today.DaveyDo, are you still on track with the exercise program?Do you have sunny weather??????????
May 10, 201115 yr Author Still cold and rainy here. New pilates dvd, so did 50 minutes of pilates and 40 minutes of ballet barre.
May 13, 201115 yr Author I'm doing p90x :)Sunny,How do you like that workout? Do you have Tony's 10 minute trainer as well?I have been thinking of getting 10 minute trainer, but would love to get some reviews first.
May 14, 201115 yr nah I just got p90x. it's super hardcore though. not for the faint of heart or even those who haven't worked out in a while. before I started I was lifting in the gym on average 2x a week not to mention going on a couple of 30 min runs a week. those vids still kicked my butt. I'm still in my first week though. I hope it will get easier but I highly recommend nonetheless. they are extremely motivating and you will get results. I'm sore like every single day after those workouts.
May 16, 201115 yr Experts DaveyDo, are you still on track with the exercise program?Do you have sunny weather??????????Wow. Sorry. Kinda forgot about this thread. Thanks for the enquiry, jahra. To answer your question, yes, I have been keeping on track with my exercise program. In fact, I believe that I'm exercising more now than I ever have been.A funny (parculiar, not humorous) thing happened to me while vacationing in Florida last February that I believe I could trace down to the day of my 54th birthday. I was tightening a strap on a folding bicycle that I was riding from South Beach to Key Biscayne when my shoulder popped. There was some pain afterwards, but I didn't think too much of it, since it's an old injury and the symptoms do exacerbate. Well, every since then I have experienced achy joints and the like. In fact, the only time that I'm not in pain is when I'm bicycling, working out, or doing some sort of manual labor. I don't know. Perhaps there are times we can actually "trace the moment summer turns to autumn" and my body is telling me, "Okay! You're an Old Dude now! Time to take it down a notch!"Well, alright, then! I will take it down a notch! But I will not stagnate! I will not allow this pain to be the Master of My Fate! I'd rather go out in a Blaze of Glory rather than to Decompose Statically! So there!Dave

I will not let a chronic ankle injury defeat me. You're just a kid at 54! Keep moving and update us prn.
