Do I get a copy of my CVS report? I read at my cgfns account correspondence that they mailed the report to new york. Does this mean that I need to send my application to NY now? I havent applied yet.:uhoh21:

You should immediately send out your application form to NY Board. Don't wait to get your copy of CVS report.

Could you please tell me how long CGFNS take to issue the report. I have applied for CVS last month and my school has not yet received the request for transcript validation.

Best of Luck,

Alina

CGFNS sent me ground mail just this month (after 1 year of application!) stating that they have already sent my CVS Report to NY BON, and that I will not receive a copy of the report.

Yeah, it took them that long. I received a letter that they already sent my INCOMPLETE report to NY BON. I dont understand why it was incomplete. I received a notification of received documents of both my local license and my TOR from my school. They waived two requirements, my midwife license and my other school's paper. I dont know what else is needed. I dont understand, if they want my other schools paper why did they waived it and why didnt they sent a request for it.:angryfire

It will take them almost a year. I applied last June. I received a notice of completed application new york verification, Sept 9. My school received the request for my papers by oct, but it was for the other school (which they waived). So my school sent them back the request and I emailed CGFNS that they had sent the wrong request. I received a notification of received documents for my transcript at 11-27-2006. And recently (4-19-07) I received a ground mail that they already sent my incomplete report to NY BON. I dont even know why it was incomplete.

Some get it done in just four months, average is eight months.

But please be aware that you are going to have major issues finding a hospital to petition you in NY, evne if you attended school there it is difficult. You are only going to find a job in a nursing home. Hospitals have not been petitioning there for a nurse from out of the country for a couple of years.

The CVS cannot be used for any other state. Why go thru that process when you are not going to be able to work in a hospital?

I have a friend from Taiwan who just started the process to become licensed in NY. He recently submitted his CES form to CG. After hearing about all these long delays with NY and the unlikelyhood of obtaining a hospital to petition a foregn nurse. Is it worth continuing the process? He considered NJ but he was informed that the NJBOF will not issue a license without a social security #. Should he reconsider and apply to another state?

New Mexico I've heard seems to issue the ATT in a relatively short period and without a social security #. If he obtains a NM license will his chances of at least getting a hospital to petition for him easier? It would seem that his chances are better if he opts out of NY

Are there other states who are petitioning foreign nurses?

Thank you in advance for your help...

Having a license and getting petitioned are two very different things. They are handled by two very different agencies.

States do not petition, it is the employer that petitions. NY just happens to have enough that are applying that went to school there, or already have a green card, or are US citizens, so that they do not need to wait for the immigration process. This is what they do not want to do and why it is hard to get petitioned by an actual hospital there.

Getting a license in NM if they are not going to work there, does not influence anything. They need to decide where they actually want to work and start with that. It can actually take them longer to endorse than going to the state that they wish in the first place.

I understand that becoming licensed and getting petitoned are two very different processes handled by different entities. I wanted to know which states appear to have hospitals that seem to petition more often due to a lack of nurses, if any.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I appreciate your help.

His first choice was New Jersey, but when he spoke to a representative at the Board of Nursing in Newark, he was told that NJ would not issue a license unless he had a social security number. The license application states in bold:

You must provide a Social Security number to the Board or Committee. Failure to do so will result in denial of licensure.

He felt that without a license at hand to show prospective employers, his chances of being petitioned would be limited. Should he disregard that and attempt the process anyway.

His ultimate goal is to work in NJ. Will his licensure application be turned down and not issued an ATT for a lack of a SS#? And how difficult will it be to have prospective employer grant him employment when there is no license to provide them.. Will simply stating I passed the NCLEX be sufficient?

The majority of foreign nurses that come to work in the US actually do not get their license until after they have arrived in the US and have obtained the SSN# and presented it to the BON for that state.

Immigration only requires verification of passing of the NCLEX exam, it does not require a license. Same as with work offers, they just want to know that the nurse has passed the exam. He will not get a license in NJ until he has the SSN# to give them. This does not slow him down in being able to sit for the NCLEX exam and receive the ATT.

Most states will have hospitals that will petition foreign nurses. The two areas that have more than enough that apply there and do not need petitioning are the San Francisco Bay Area and New York. It is very difficult to get petitioned for a hospital in those areas if not a grad of a US nursing program and the facility is familiar with you, and the student has an OPT. Or the nurse has significant experience in a facility that is similar to what we have in the US.

Needs change all of the time, openings come and go. Again, a state should be selected based on where the nurse wishes to work. If your friend wishes to work in NJ, then focus on that.

But quick question, where is your friend in all of this? Why are they not asking for themself directly? If shy, or concerned with their English, they are still going to need to go thru an interview process once they pass the NCLEX exam. Best to start now with practicing.
