Hello everyone -
Sorry to bother you all with this terrible topic BUT:
I am currently a student at a private for-profit college in the Orlando area and just got a DUI. The circumstances were terrible. I was parked in my car waiting for my ride in the parking lot and it was cold, so I turned it on for the heater. Well, turns out I got a DUI because my car was running and I was in the driver's seat patiently waiting for my ride to arrive. I digress.... Has anyone been arrested for a misdemeanor DUI charge? I don't know how to bring the topic up to my Dean of Nursing. Our handbook states that you have to disclose any arrests or convictions. I am a squeaky clean person, generally, and never drink other than maybe twice a year (never again now). My lawyer does not foresee this being an issue or becoming a conviction, but I just need advice as to how to explain this to my DoN. I feel so embarrassed already, despite not actually driving drunk.

Please, for your safety, DO NOT DISCUSS this with any of your fellow students or teachers or anyone at your school.
Get a lawyer who can defend your license (future license) from TAANA.org and do not talk to the dean of your school or any instructors until you have retained an attorney from that site, and they have advised you on what to say.
Next, look at the Recovery/Nurses forums on this site and read the stories.
Again, FIRST--STAY ZERO
Second- GET AN ATTORNEY who can defend your license.
You will be thankful you did!

I agree with RN1965, ADN.
Keep this to yourself for now. Vent to a family member. Do not share with others in the program.
I'm so sorry that happened to you. Sounds very unfair. Hang in there. Get legal help. Good luck.

What did you blow? If it's low enough, and you show proof of the ride coming, you may be able to get it removed.
My only other concern for you would be your mugshot. Those can be much harder to remove since in Florida mugshots and arrest records are public records.
