CSULB Fall 2014

Hey everyone!

Did anyone else apply to CSULB for Fall 2014? The school app was due last Saturday, and then we have the month of January to submit for the School of Nursing.

Based on previous threads, it looks like we are invited to an interview about a month after the deadline, and the cutoff was ~9.1 points.

Here are my stats so we can see how we stand this year!

Science GPA: 3.58

GE GPA: 3.77

TEAS: 97.3

TEAS Math: 100

I think that works out to about 9.4 points... the average keeps rising each year, so it would be nice to see where we all fall!

Good luck everyone :)

Totally misread your post. I declined LB for LA. Good luck to everyone!

I got accepted to both CSULB and CSULA. Which school is better?

LB!! They have the trimester program :)

I'm thinking of just taking the basic program! I feel like trimester is too intense!

Well they have both at LB... I would love to do the trimester because I'll be done in 2 years instead of 3... I don't care about having summers off

Both schools are great! Congrats on acceptance! If you're planning on doing 3 years then it really doesn't matter which school you choose just look at the location maybe and decide which clinical sites you might enjoy more? You cant go wrong with either choice though!

Has anyone on the alternate list heard back from the nursing department yet?

Not yet! I think we should hear in the next week or two about orientation information, but us alternates wont know if we are accepted until like June when the other applicants must either accept or deny their admissions

I was told during the interview that we get to choose whether we want the Basic or Trimester program at orientation. Our preference depends on the spots available. At first I wanted the Trimester because its faster. But after weighing the pros and cons , I think I'm going for the Basic. Trimester BSN program is financially supported through a grant from Long Beach Memorial Medical Center/Miller Children's Hospital which means that all your clinical are at one hospital versus Basic where you get to experience at more than one hospital for clinicals. The instructors also told us that summer sessions are fast and may be too fast for some students to absorbed--plus you only get one week rest after spring semester to begin and another week rest afterwards before fall semester. I have kids so summer seems harsh. Anyone out there choosing the Basic Program? Also, anyone know when we are officially notify which program we are placed in after attending orientation?

You're correct, trimester program is very fast and intense. If you need to work, like to take mental breaks, or have a family at home then the basic program is probably your best bet. And yes, basic gets a much better opportunity for networking and landing a job considering they are at more than 1 facility for clinicals so that's something to think about as well. The end result is the same, you end with a BSN, but its the journey getting there that is the difference. Ive heard more people end up dropping the trimester program and asking to be placed in basic because of the intensity, so keep that in mind when making a decision! Best of luck!
