CSULA Fall 2021

Hi all!
I just wanted to create this forum for students who are applying to CSULA Fall 2021 for the BSN Nursing track in case we had questions for each other, wanted to share thoughts, stats and to support each other through this journey.

I was wondering if anyone has applied and knew if CSULA requires verification for volunteer hours in their NursingCAS application portion? Also, will they accept any amount of volunteer hours under 50? I know you can add a document. Thank you!

Oh okay! Thank you! And were you guys all online since covid was a majority of your school year? Also was it hard to get all A’s because I’m thinking about taking chem 1010 in the Summer time so because I heard it’s easy to get a C in that class so I want to take it individually in the Summer time and focus all my time on that class aiming to get an A. What do you think?

Yeah, pretty much took all the pre-reqs online cause of covid. I don’t wanna scare you and say it’s hard haha but it was in a way hard to get all As since it just took a lot of time and dedication to really understand the concepts. Like for Anatomy, Physio and Microbio I felt those were the most time consuming classes since it required a lot of memorization and understanding.

And yeah it sounds like a good idea! Just be prepared cause Summer term goes by real quick. But you’ll be fine since you’re gonna be able to put all your focus on one class!

Thank you for the advice! If you know what class is the weed-er out class that make people drop their major could you let me know so I am more prepared? I think it may be harder since CSULA is planning to be in person starting in the fall because all of us freshman just came from being online for over a year and we sort of now adjusted to that way of teaching?

No problem! Honestly it's those 3 classes, Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 and Microbiology. IDK but I feel like it may be easier in person but it just really depends on the student. For me, I kind of had a hard time taking these science classes online because I couldn't physically be there for the labs. And labs play a huge role in helping you understand some stuff so yeah, just my opinion haha. Good luck though!! You got this! ?

oh I see! Thank you, I have faith! :)) I’ve also attached the PDF with the classes that are currently up to date for our prerequisites and basically the roadmap that we pre-nursing students are supposed to follow. Are these classes the same ones your class took? I noticed when mentioning the weed-er out classes that you said physiology and Microbiology but those according to the road map are taken in the Spring time which is after the PACSON application so really before applying, human anatomy would be the main tough class?

Yup those are pretty much the same classes! And yes, anatomy will be the one you have to dedicate a lottt of time on.

Thank you! I definitely try my best to ace that class! I should have more time in the fall now that I’m taking a a chem prerequisite in the Summer. I looked up the teachers on rate my professor so I know which teachers to pick this year. Do you think as a freshman who will be attending the first session of orientation that I would have a good chance to pick the classes with the professors that I want?

Hmm honestly classes fill up quickly especially when the professor has a good rating. So it really just depends. Just have back up professors in case the class you want is full. Hopefully you're able to enroll with the professors you want!!

Congrats to everyone that was accepted to the BSN Fall 2024 cohort (and those that were not my heart goes out to you! but don't worry you'll get in somewhere!)

I am the co-prez for the 2023 cohort BSN CSULA and I was wondering if you have perhaps created a facebook group for your cohort yet? If so I would love to be added so I can help ease you into the program!

Hi! I made a FB group quite awhile ago. And sure, here's the link to the group:

Hello again! I had another question. This fall do you know what classes us pre nursing students would be taking besides the nursing program prerequisites? Like along the prerequisites will we be taking other general education classes?

So for pre-nursing you would take prereqs alongside general ED classes. You can honestly choose any of the GEs to take during fall.
