CSULA BSN Fall 2017

I am transferring from ELAC to CSULA and I was wondering how late can I take my TEAS? and also what if I still have a writing composition class in progress in spring but all other classes are completed?

As long as you take your teas in time to make the deadline, you're good. I took mine in December right before the app was due. I wouldn't recommend that lol cuz I didn't have a chance to retake them, but you can take them up until the last minute as long as you have enough to time to get your results. You're allowed to have classes in progress in spring. The only pre-reqs you can have in progress are micro and stats. As long as your writing comp class isn't your required English or critical thinking class, you should be fine.

I read the CSULA BSN Fall 2016 thread and I saw that someone only counted their TEAS English and Reading scores... Does the science and math part not count towards admission to the program? I'm confused. Hope someone can clear that up for me. Thank you in advance.

You're right. Only reading and English scores count. You get points based on what percentile you fall into. You get 5 points for being in the 90-99 percentile. 4 points for being 80-89 percentile and so on and you get points separately for reading and english. I scored in the 94th percentile for reading and 93 for english so I got a total of 10 points for my TEAS section.

Math and Science DO NOT count. you dont get any points for it HOWEVER you need to score atleast in the 40th percentile for both to able to get into the program.

So TEAS exams are due January 10, 2017 correct? How about NursingCAS? I'm not sure where to find the due date for that.

I've applied to CSULA nursing for Fall 2017. I think I will be competitive, just wondering if anyone knows someone who goes there and if they like the experience? OR is it overwhelming? Opinions on the campus and social scene?

I'm in the 2016 cohort! I will be happy to answer any questions you guys have. So far my experience has been good! First semester I did my clinicals at Cedars Sinai, and this semester I'm at White Memorial. I'm learning a lot! The administrative side of things can be disorganized. I'm assuming that's partly due to the Quarter-Semester conversion. The professors are awesome. As far as the campus and social scene, there's not much, but you will form a close bond with people in your nursing cohort and spend a lot of time studying/carpooling with them. The program can get overwhelming, but the first semester isn't too bad. I'd say the two biggest advantages of CSULA are the proximity to great hospitals and the knowledgeable professors. (Parts of the campus are old and run down, but they will be renovating the nursing labs soon!) Like I said, I will try to answer any specific questions to the best of my ability. Last year I had a bunch of questions about schedules, hospitals, orientation, etc., and it was hard to get answers. Anyway, good luck to you all! Thank you, RachMayJ! That's very nice of you to offer your help. We'll have a lot of questions for you throughout this process. Right now I'm a little frustated with CSULA though. I spoke with somebody who apparently is in charge of the nursing applications about some questions I had and all his answers were incompatible with what it said on their website. It seemed like he was really trying to help, but it is scary to have somebody dealing with something so important that doesn't know what they are doing!

Thank you!! That's the one! What frustated me the most was that he didnt know what academic renewal is and that on the points for the TEAS test he told me that what counts is your individual percentage and not the National PR. I tried to argue that the rules on the website say it's the National one, but he wouldnt listen to me. So I gave up. That was about a month ago. I hope that since then somebody explained to him how it works!!

That's frustrating. Yeah, as far as I know, it's the national percentile. And he didn't know what academic renewal is? That's so strange. That is definitely frustrating. That would make me worry too. Like you said, it's super important. I'm assuming he's gonna have to have it all figured out really soon. The hardest part is waiting! Well, nursing school is harder lol :)
